sections of the said Act were delegated to certain
Resident Magistrates: And whereas it is expedient
to revoke the delegations of the powers granted under
the said sections, and to delegate the said powers in
manner hereinafter mentioned:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth, by this present order, revoke the afore-
said delegations, and doth further hereby delegate to
the persons named in the first column of the Schedule
hereto the powers granted to the Colonial Secretary
under the seventy-fourth and seventy-fifth sections
of the said Act, and doth hereby order that the said
powers shall be exercised by the said persons within
the district placed opposite the name of each re-
spectively.

Revocation and Delegation of Powers under "The
New Zealand Native Reserves Act, 1856," and "The
Native Reserves Amendment Act, 1862," to Major
Charles Heaphy, V.C.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
tenth day of May, 1879.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by an Order in Council, bearing date
the first day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy, His Excellency Sir George
Ferguson Bowen, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, did, by virtue of certain powers
and authorities in him vested as such Governor
as aforesaid by "The New Zealand Native Re-
serves Act, 1856," and "The Native Reserves
Amendment Act, 1862," delegate to Major Charles
Heaphy, V.C., all the powers competent to Com-
missioners under the said first recited Act without
any restrictions or stipulations whatever: And
whereas it is expedient to revoke the said powers so
delegated as aforesaid:
Now, therefore, His Excellency Sir Hercules
George Robert Robinson, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in the exercise of the powers and
authorities vested in him by the said last-mentioned
Act as such Governor as aforesaid, doth, by this
Order in Council, revoke the powers so delegated as
aforesaid, and doth further hereby delegate, until
this order shall be revoked, to the said Major Charles
Heaphy, V.C., the following powers--that is to say,
to grant leases of Native reserves for periods not
exceeding twenty-one years, to give valid receipts for
rents, to assent to transfers and assignments, and
accept surrenders of leases from tenants in posses-
sion, and to distribute among the Natives beneficially
interested therein the net proceeds of the rents and
profits of Native reserves.

Additional Regulations for Survey of Native Lands.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
tenth day of May, 1879.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the twentieth section of "The
Waste Lands Administration Act, 1876," it
is, among other things, enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor, by Order in Council, whenever he
shall think it fit to do so, to prescribe regulations
under which surveys of Native lands shall thereafter
be conducted; and any such regulations at any time
to alter, amend, or rescind, anything in "The Native
Land Act, 1873," to the contrary, notwithstanding:
And whereas by an Order in Council of the
twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven, issued in pursuance and by
authority of the said twentieth section, certain
regulations were duly made:
And whereas it is expedient to amend the said
regulations:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in
exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the said twentieth section of the
said Act, and all other powers and authorities en-
abling him in this behalf, doth hereby order and
direct that the regulations set forth in the Schedule
hereto annexed shall be additional regulations and
instructions under which all surveys of Native lands
for the purposes of "The Native Land Act, 1873,"
or other Acts relating to Native land, shall be con-
ducted in the future; and doth order and declare
that the said additional regulations shall come into
force in respect of the surveys of Native lands and
take effect on and from the date hereof.
SCHEDULE.

Surveys under Regulation 2, which can be
classed only as reconnaissance or topographical
sketch, must have the necessary roads drawn on
the maps as nearly in the correct position as can be
estimated by the method of survey adopted. -
Surveys under Regulation 3, or such as may be
classed equal in correctness to "block and section"
surveys, must have roads traversed and laid out as
directed for section surveys generally.

WHEREAS by section twenty-nine of "The
Public Works Act, 1876" (hereinafter re-
ferred to as "the said Act"), it is enacted that, if
it is found that any land taken under that Act is
not required for public use, the Governor may, by
an Order in Council publicly notified and gazetted,
cause the same to be sold under the conditions
therein set forth:
And whereas by the ninety-fourth section of the
said Act it is enacted that the land occupied by any
road stopped as provided by the said Act shall be
