And when six months or more of the annual period
shall have expired, only one-half of the above fees
shall be charged.

8. Duration and Form of License.
Depasturing licenses granted under these Regula-
tions shall be signed by the Chairman of the County
Council, and shall remain in force only until the 31st
day of December next following the date thereof;
and such licenses shall be in the form contained in
the Third Schedule hereto.

9. Registration.
All cattle depastured in a district under these
regulations, whether running free of assessment or
by virtue of a depasturing license, must be branded,
and the brands and a description of the cattle must
be registered with the Clerk of the County Council.
The fee for every such registration shall be one
shilling, and a certificate of registration in the form
of the Fourth Schedule hereto shall be given to
persons entitled to run cattle free of assessment fees
as aforesaid.

10. Register to be kept.
The Clerk of the County Council shall keep a
register of brands and a list of depasturing licenses
and registration certificates issued, with the date of
issue, and the names of the licensees and certificate
holders, the qualification under which any cattle are
to be run free of assessment fees, and the quantity
and description of stock which each person is autho-
rized to depasture, and such register shall be kept in
the Council offices, and may be inspected at any time
by the public.

11. Copy of Register to be exhibited.
The Clerk shall exhibit a copy of the register of
brands at the Post-office within the county in or
adjoining each district.

12. Brands previously registered.
If the brand described in any application has
previously been registered by any other person, the
applicant shall amend his application by inserting
therein some other brand not previously registered.

13. Diseased Cattle prohibited.
No diseased cattle shall be depastured upon, nor
shall any pigs be allowed at large within any district;
and any person or persons who shall turn out or
depasture any diseased cattle or suffer any pig to be
at large within any district shall be liable to a penalty
not exceeding ten pounds for the first offence, and to
a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds for any
second or subsequent offence.

14. Bulls and Entire Horses not to be depastured.
No bull over the age of six months, or entire
horse over the age of twelve months, shall be depas-
tured within a district and whoever shall be guilty
of a breach of this regulation shall be liable to a
penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.

15. No Goats to be depastured without Consent of
Council.

No goats shall be depastured within any district
without the consent, in writing, of the Lake County
Council, such consent to be notified by the Clerk to
the Council to the person wishing to depasture such
goats.

16. Removal of Cattle, &c.
Any person desirous of removing great or small
cattle within, from, or to any district shall, before
doing so, give notice in writing of such intention to
the Clerk of the Council, or to such person as may
be duly authorized by the Council, in writing, in this
behalf; and such person shall also, in such notice,
give full particulars of the brands of the cattle to be
removed; and the person giving such notice, or his
servant, shall not drive or take away any cattle except
such as shall be specified in the said notice.

17. Mustering Stock in District.
It shall be lawful for the Council to authorize a
partial or general muster of the stock within any
district or part of any district, and the owner or
owners of stock illegally depasturing great or small
cattie thereon shall be liable for the expenses in-
curred in so mustering.

18. Licenses not to be issued to Minors, &c.
Depasturing licenses shall not be issued to minors
under the age of eighteen years.

19. Penalty for Non-registration, &c.
No person shall depasture cattle, great or small, in
a district, unless the same be registered and branded,
in the manner provided by these regulations; and all
cattle depasturing under these regulations shall be
and be kept branded with the registered brand of the
person authorized to depasture the same in the
manner herein provided; and all cattle found in a
district unregistered or without such brand shall be
deemed to be illegally depastured in such district in
contravention of these regulations; and the owner
or owners thereof shall, upon conviction, be liable to
a penalty not exceeding forty shillings per head for
every offence for every head of cattle so depastured.

20. Unregistered Cattle may be Impounded.
All pigs or unregistered cattle found in or upon
a district may be impounded by any officer of the
Council duly authorized in that behalf; and the
owner or owners thereof shall, in addition to the
penalties provided by these regulations, and to the
impounding fees chargeable under any by-law of the
County Council for the time being in force, be liable
to a charge of five shillings per head for the costs
incurred in the collecting and recovering of the same.

21. Penalty for Illegally Depasturing.
Any person depasturing cattle in or upon a dis-
trict without a license authorizing the holder thereof
in that behalf, and any person depasturing thereon a
greater number of cattle than he is entitled to de-
pasture by virtue of such license, or more than by
these regulations he is entitled to depasture by
virtue of a miner's right, business license, or agricul-
tural lease shall, upon conviction, be liable to a
penalty not exceeding ten shillings per head for each
offence for every head of cattle so depastured.

22. Recovery of Penalties.
All fines and penalties incurred under the pro-
visions of these regulations may be recovered in a
summary way before any two or more Justices of the
Peace in the manner provided by "The Justices of the
Peace Act, 1866," and any Act or Acts amending
the same.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

No. 1 DEPASTURING DISTRICT.
ALL that area in the County of Lake, New Zealand, adjoining
Run No. 24, and bounded as follows: Commencing at the
junction of the Swiftburn with the Arrow River; thence along
the Arrow River to its junction with the Kawarau River;
thence Easterly along the Kawarau to boundary of Run
No. 340; thence Northerly along boundary of said run a mile
back from the Kawarau River; thence Westerly a mile back
and parallel to said river, to Swiftburn; thence Southerly along
Swiftburn, to the starting point. Estimated area, 3,800-800
of which is held under agricultural lease.

No. 2 DEPASTURING DISTRICT.
All that area in the said County of Lake known as the
Queenstown Hill, exclusive of Corporation "Commonage
Reserve Block," agricultural leases, freehold, &c. Estimated
area, 3,000 acres.
