Alteration of Rates of Postage.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled "The New Zealand Post
Office Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time,
by Proclamation to be published in the New Zealand Gazette, to fix, alter, and abolish the rates of postage
at any time payable within the colony for the transmission of letters and newspapers by post, either between
places within New Zealand or to or from places beyond seas, and at what time the same shall be paid, and
that the postage so made payable shall be charged and paid accordingly: And whereas by Proclamation
duly made and issued, bearing date the fourteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-eight, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the sixteenth day of September, in the same
year, the Governor in Council did, in pursuance of the said recited power and authority, fix certain rates of
postage to be paid within the colony for the transmission of all letters and newspapers and packets by post
to or from the countries and places mentioned in the Schedule thereto, and the times at which the same
respectively should be paid as therein mentioned: And whereas it is desirable that the said rates should
be altered as hereinafter mentioned:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, in exercise of the said recited power
and authority, and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, doth hereby alter the
rates of postage fixed to be paid within the colony for the transmission of letters to the countries
and places set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth proclaim and declare that the postage payable
within the colony for the transmission of all letters, newspapers, and packets by post to the countries and
places mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be according to the rates mentioned in such Schedule, and
that such postage shall in all cases be paid at the time such letters, newspapers, and packets are delivered
into the post; and, with the like advice and consent as aforesaid, doth further proclaim and declare that
this Proclamation shall take effect from and after the fifteenth day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-nine.
