THE following Notices to Mariners, received from
the Marine Board of New South Wales, are
published for general information.

SHOALING OF THE CLARENCE BAR.

Masters of vessels trading to the Clarence are
hereby informed that the depth of water on the bar
has latterly decreased to 9 feet 6 inches at high-
water neap tides.

REPORTED DISCOVERY OF A SHOAL.

Captain LEEMAN, of the schooner "Ephemy," re-
ports having stood to within 100 yards of a shoal,
with apparently 3 or 4 fathoms of water on it, ex-
tending E.S.E., and W.N.W., in lat. 21° 38' S., long.
162° E. on the passage from Huon Island to Sydney.
No break was observed, the weather being very
fine, with smooth water, when this discovery was
made.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS,
Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of
Victoria, has applied, on behalf of Mr. PHIPPS TURN-
BULL, trading as "Phipps Turnbull and Company,"
at No. 122, Collins Street West, in the City of Mel-
bourne, and Colony of Victoria, Merchant, to register
under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade
mark, of which the following is a description,
viz:—

The representation of a cock or male domestic fowl.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such
Trade Mark shall apply.

Substances used as food; and fermented liquors

Notification of Resignation of Seat in the House of
Representatives for Electoral District of Auckland
City West.

IN compliance with the provisions of the thirteenth
section of "The Regulation of Elections Act,
1870," I hereby notify that Patrick Dignan, Esquire,
has resigned his seat in the House of Repre-
sentatives for the Electoral District of Auckland
City West, and that his letter of resignation was
received by me on the 1st day of February, 1879;
and that the said seat is vacant by reason of such
resignation.

Thames Harbour.—Claims of Natives.

NOTICE.

In the matter of "The Thames Harbour Board Act,
1878" (Local), and in the matter of the claims of
aboriginal natives to land authorized to be granted
under the said Act.

NOTICE is hereby given that any aboriginal
natives having any claims or rights to or in
the land situated below high-water mark within the
Port of the Thames, under the Treaty of Waitangi,
which have not been satisfied and discharged, or
under contracts, promises, or engagements made by
the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, or
by any persons acting on behalf of or with the autho-
rity of the Government of the colony, affecting such
land, must lodge statements of their claims in writing,
with full particulars of the nature and extent of the
interest claimed, at the office of the Supreme Court
at Auckland, on Thursday, the 27th day of February
instant, and that such claims will be heard and deter-
mined at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Grahams-
town, on Friday, the 7th day of March, at 11 o'clock
of the forenoon, or as soon after as conveniently may
be.
