shall forthwith declare to the meeting the place and
time, being not less than three nor more than seven
days after the day of the meeting, at which the poll
shall be taken; and at such time and place the poll
shall be taken accordingly in manner following:β€”
(1.) The poll shall commence at nine o'clock in
the forenoon, and continue till four o'clock in
the afternoon.
(2.) The Presiding Officer, with such assistants as
he shall think necessary, shall attend at the
appointed place, furnished with poll-books and
pens and ink.
(3.) Every person desirous and qualified to vote
at such election shall appear in person at the
appointed time and place, and shall state to the
Presiding Officer or one of his assistants the
name of the candidate for whom he desires to
vote; and the said Presiding Officer or assistant
shall enter the same in the poll-book, and cause
the voter to sign his name or set his mark
thereto.
(4.) The Presiding Officer shall, as soon as con-
veniently may be after the close of the poll,
ascertain the number of votes given for each
candidate, and shall declare that candidate in
whose favour the greatest number of votes
shall appear to have been given to be duly
elected.
(5.) In case of equality of votes for two or more
candidates, the member or members shall
be chosen from such candidates by lot.
7. The decision of the Chairman of any meeting,
either as to the persons elected or as to the right of
any ratepayer to vote, shall be deemed final and con-
clusive on all parties.
8. For the purposes of these regulations the term
"ratepayer" means any person who, at the time of
any election held under the said Act and these
regulations, would be entitled to vote at the election
of any member of any County Council, Highway
Board, Local Board, or Borough Council within any
district defined under the said Act.

Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council;
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-seventh day of January, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-nine.

Withdrawing Crown Land from a Mining District.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-second day of April, one thousand

eight hundred and sixty-eight, certain land within
the County of Westland was declared to be a gold
field within the meaning of "The Gold Fields Act,
1866," and is called "The Westland Gold Field:"

And whereas by the sixth section of "The Mines
Act, 1877," it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor from time to time, by Procla-
mation, to constitute and appoint any portion of
the colony to be a mining district under the now in
part recited Act, to assign boundaries to such dis-
trict, to enlarge, contract, or otherwise alter such
boundaries, and to declare by what local name every
such district shall be designated; and that, until the
Governor shall otherwise order, every gold field duly
proclaimed or constituted at the time of the com-
mencement of the said "Mines Act, 1877," shall be
and be deemed a mining district under that Act:

And whereas by the forty-fifth section of "The
Mines Act, 1877," aforesaid, it is provided that it
shall be lawful for the Governor at any time sub-
sequent to the constitution or proclamation of a
gold-mining district, by Proclamation, to withdraw
therefrom any Crown lands which he may deem it
necessary to withdraw: And whereas it is desirable
and expedient to withdraw from the said gold-mining
district the Crown land described in the Schedule
hereto:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me as aforesaid, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the Crown land
described in the said Schedule hereto is hereby
withdrawn from the said gold-mining district, and
that such lands shall henceforth be dealt with in
every respect as though they had never been com-
prised in any mining district.

SCHEDULE.

ALL those parcels of land situated in the Town of
Kumara, in the Waimea Survey District, and bounded
as follows:β€”

4 acres 3 roods 35 perches, more or less. Bounded
towards the South-east by the Greenstone Road, 10
chains; towards the North-east by Town Belt North,
5 chains; towards the North-west by Cashman
Street, 9 chains 75 links; and towards the South-
west by Seddon Street, 5 chains 1 link; comprising
Sections 54 to 63, 137 to 146, 355 to 358, 361 to
375, inclusive; Section 355 containing an area of 35
perches, the remaining sections 20 perches each.

3 acres and 3 roods, more or less. Bounded
towards the South-east by Cashman Street, 7 chains
50 links; towards the North-east by Town Belt
North, 5 chains; towards the North-west by Town
Belt West, 7 chains 50 links; and towards the
South-west by Sections 436 and 391, 5 chains;
comprising Sections 376 to 390 and 437 to 451
inclusive, and of an area of 20 perches each.

4 acres 3 roods and 35 perches, more or less.
Bounded towards the South-east by the Greenstone
Road, 10 chains; towards the North-east by Seddon
Street, 5 chains 1 link; towards the North-west by
Cashman Street, 9 chains 50 links; and towards the
South-west by Tui Street, 5 chains; comprising
Sections 64 to 83 and 336 to 354 inclusive; Section
354 containing an area of 35 perches, the remaining
sections 20 perches each.

2 acres 2 roods, more or less. Bounded towards
the South-east by Cashman Street, 5 chains; towards
the South-west by Sections 409 and 418, 5 chains;
towards the North-west by Town Belt West, 5
chains; and towards the North-east by Sections
429 and 398, 5 chains; comprising Sections 399 to
408 and 419 to 428 inclusive, and of an area of 20
perches each.
