Victorian Drawback Regulations.

THE following Gazette notice, received from the
Department of Trade and Customs in Mel-
bourne, is published for general information.

DRAWBACK REGULATIONS.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor in Council has been pleased to direct that
the following be added to the list of articles specified
in Schedule to the Drawback Regulations of the 4th
December, 1878, which came into force on the 1st
January, 1879; and that the drawback payable
thereon shall be at the rate under mentioned, viz.:-

Article. Rate.
Carriages and vehicles temporarily imported, on special application at the time of impor- tation, and subject to their being exported within such period as may be fixed by the Commissioner of Trade and Customs. The full duty paid on im- portation.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

No. 61 of 1879.

EXHIBITION OF REVOLVING WHITE LIGHT ON CAPE
SAUNDERS, OTAGO PENINSULA, EASTERN COAST
OF MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th December, 1879.

WITH reference to the preliminary notice issued by
this department, dated the 16th day of August
last, it is hereby notified that, on and after Thursday,
the 1st day of January, 1880, a light will be exhibited
from a lighthouse which has been erected on Cape
Saunders, the position and characteristics of which
are as follow:-

Cape Saunders Lighthouse is situated on the Cape
of that name on the Otago Peninsula, Eastern Coast
of Middle Island, New Zealand. The tower is 28
feet in height, and is built of timber painted white.
The light will be a SECOND ORDER REVOLVING WHITE
LIGHT, visible between the bearings of S.W. by W.
round by W. and N. to N.E. N., attaining its
greatest brilliancy ONCE EVERY MINUTE. The light
will be elevated about 210 feet above the sea, and,
allowing 15 feet for the height of the eye, will be
visible at a distance of about 20 nautic miles in
clear weather, and at lesser distances according to
the state of the atmosphere.

Agricultural Lease cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to pronounce the

under-mentioned agricultural lease cancelled; and
that the ground is now open for application as if no
lease of the said ground had ever been applied for :-

Donald McKenzie; 80 acres 3 roods 24 perches,
Section 52, Block I., Crookston District, Otago Gold
Fields.

Decision of Court of Inquiry on stranding of s.s.
"Tui" confirmed.

Wellington, 12th December, 1879.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
confirm the following decision of the Court of
Inquiry into the cause of the stranding of the s.s.
"Tui," official number 69001, 64 tons register, Thomas
Holmes, master, holding a New Zealand certificate
of service No. 2281. The vessel was stranded on a
rock at the entrance to Wellington Harbour, while
leaving the harbour for Wanganui, at 1.30 a.m. on
the 23rd ultimo.

"That we find the master, Thomas Holmes, cul-
pable of neglect in leaving the direction of the vessel
and taking the helm while in a position of danger.
Had he continued at his post at the standard compass,
the accident in all probability would not have occurred.

"We, therefore, adjudge that his certificate be
suspended for three months, and that the said Thomas
Holmes, master of the s.s. 'Tui,' pay the costs of
the investigation.

"Given under our hands this second day of
December, 1879, at Wellington, New
Zealand.
