Cadet, Survey Department, appointed.

General Survey Office,
Wellington, 1st December, 1879.
HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased
to appoint
CHARLES WILLIAM MCFARLAND
to be a Cadet in the Survey Department of New
Zealand. Appointment dating from the 1st December,
1879.

Alterations and Additions to the Rates for the Con-
veyance, Delivery, and Storage of Goods, Parcels,
&c., on the New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with section 18 of "The Public
Works Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1878," the
following alterations and concessions are made in the
scale of fares of passengers on the New Zealand
Railways:-

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.
Single tickets from any station to any station,
issued from Saturday, the 20th December, 1879, to
Saturday, the 3rd January, 1880, will be available
for return any day up to and inclusive of Monday,
the 5th January, 1880.

The above notice applies to the whole of the New
Zealand Government Railways.

AMBERLEY TO BLUFF, AND BRANCHES.
On the occasion of the Southland Agricultural and
Pastoral Association's Show on the 11th December,
1879, ordinary single-fare tickets, available for the
return journey up to and including the 15th Decem-
ber, 1879, will be issued from Clinton, Kingston,
Bluff, and Riverton, and intermediate stations, to
Invercargill.

On the occasion of the Annual Show of the Toko-
mairiro Farmers' Club on the 11th December, 1879,
ordinary single-fare tickets issued from all stations
between Dunedin and Clinton inclusive, with
branches, to Milton, will be available for return on
the day of issue only.

Ordinary single tickets, available for the double
journey from any station to any station within the
Provincial District of Canterbury, will be issued on
the 13th, 15th, and 16th December, 1879, and will
be available for return up to and including the 17th
December, 1879.

On the occasion of opening the Otautau Branch
line on the 15th December, 1879, return tickets at
single fare, available for the day of issue only, will be
issued from Invercargill and intermediate stations.

CHIARINI'S CIRCUS.
A special rate of Β£1 per mile will be charged for
a special train to convey Chiarini's circus troupe on
a tour which is to be made through the Middle
Island.

AUCKLAND SECTION.
On the 26th December, 1879, and 1st and 2nd of
January, 1880, fares from Auckland, Newmarket,
Remuera, Onehunga, and Penrose, to Racecourse or
Ellerslie, will be, single or return, 1s., irrrespective of
class, and available on the day of issue only.

NEW PLYMOUTH SECTION.
On the occasion of opening the extension to Strat-
ford, on the 17th December, 1879, single tickets from

all stations to Stratford, issued on that day, will be
available for the return journey on the day of issue
only.

WELLINGTON SECTION.
The special rate for conveyance of sand and gravel
between Lower Hutt and Wellington to take effect
from and on the 13th October, 1879.

appoint

WILLIAM SNOW, Esq., J.P.,
to be a Member of the Licensing Courts for the Dis-
tricts of Taieri, North Taieri, Seaside, Grey, Kuri
Bush, Outram, and Waipori, vice J. Fulton, Esq.,
J.P.; and

WILLIAM BROWNING TOSSWILL, Esq., J.P.,
to be a Member of the Licensing Courts for the Dis-
tricts of Pigeon Bay, Okain's Bay, Town of Akaroa
and Wainui, and Little River, vice Edward C. Latter,
Esq., J.P., resigned.

Major CHARLES HEAPHY, V.C.,
to be a Land Claims Commissioner under "The
Land Claims Settlement Act, 1856," and "The Land
Claims Settlement Extension Act, 1858."

Notice to Persons in whom is vested Ecclesiastical
Authority over Religious Bodies.

Registrar-General's Office,
Wellington, 29th November, 1879.
THE attention of the persons or person within
the Colony of New Zealand in whom is vested
ecclesiastical authority over any of the religious
bodies enumerated in the Schedule annexed to an Act
of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled
"The Marriage Act Amendment Act, 1876," and of
all other persons concerned, is directed to the forty-
fourth section of "The Marriage Act, 1854," requir-
ing the several ecclesiastical authorities as aforesaid
to send in to the Registrar-General a correct list,
in the month of December in every year, of the
Officiating Ministers within the meaning of "The
Marriage Act, 1854," of each of the said religious
bodies.

The following are the religious bodies above re-
ferred to:-

The Church of the Province of New Zealand,
commonly called the Church of England.
The Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
The Roman Catholic Church.
The Presbyterian Church of Otago and South-
land.
The Wesleyan Methodist Society.
All Congregational Independents.
Baptists.
The Primitive Methodist Connection.
