tioned persons, who shall be known as the "Kowai
Domain Board:"—

(herein referred to as "the Board"), subject to the
stipulations hereinafter contained, that is to say,—
- The Board shall meet for the transaction of
business on the first Wednesday in each month, at
eleven o'clock in the forenoon, at the office of the
Chairman, or at such other time or place as may from
time to time be fixed by the Board. The first meeting
shall be held on Wednesday, the fifth day of Febru-
ary, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine. - Special meetings may be convened by the Chair-
man, or by any two members of the Board, provided
that two days' notice of such meeting be given to
each member, specifying the business to be transacted
at such special meeting; and no other business than
that so specified shall be transacted at such meeting. - Any three of the said Board shall form a quorum.
Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time. - The members of the Board shall at their first
meeting, and thereafter at any annual meeting to be
held on the first Wednesday in February in every suc-
ceeding year thereafter, elect one of themselves to be
Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall
have an original as well as a casting vote. The
Chairman shall hold office until the election of his
successor. - If at any meeting the Chairman is not present
at the time appointed for holding the same, the mem-
bers present shall choose some one of their number
to be Chairman of such meeting. - If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or other-
wise, the office of the Chairman shall be or become
vacant, the members may at any monthly or special
meeting appoint a Chairman. - All questions shall be determined by the majority
of votes of the members of the Board present at a
meeting.

Land temporarily reserved in the Provincial District
of Canterbury.
NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREEAS by the one hundred and forty-fourth
section of "The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted
that the Governor may from time to time, either by
general or particular description, and whether the
same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale
temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be
then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands
which in his opinion are required for any of the
purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act,
do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in
the Provincial District of Canterbury described in the
Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the
said Schedule specified.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury,
containing by admeasurement 178 acres, more or less,
being Section numbered 2382 (in red). Bounded
towards the North-east by Section numbered 34301
for a distance of 31 chains; towards the South-east
by Section numbered 33428 and a line in continua-
tion of its north-western boundary for a distance of
50 chains; towards the North-west by a road line
for a distance of 25 chains, and also by Section num-
bered 26448 for a distance of 9 chains; towards the
South-west by Section numbered 26148 for a dis-
tance of 40 chains, and also by a road line for a
distance of 27 chains: as the same is delineated on
the official map deposited in the Provincial District
Survey Office, Christchurch; save and excepting
portion of I.P.R. B. on Run No. 64, Class 3, situate
within the above-described section. For the improve-
ment and protection of the Rakaia River.
All that area in the Provincial District of Can-
terbury, containing by admeasurement 342 acres,
more or less, being Section numbered 2381 (in red).
Bounded towards the North-east by Section 34038
and a line in continuation of its south-western boun-
dary, and by Section numbered 32283 and a line in
continuation of its north-eastern boundary, for a
distance altogether of 165 chains; towards the South-
east by road lines for a distance of 35 chains, and
also by Section numbered 32283 for a distance of
16 chains; towards the North-west by a road line
for a distance of 23 chains; and towards the South-
west by a road line for a distance of 155 chains: as
the same is delineated on the official map deposited
in the Provincial District Survey Office, Christchurch.

River.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this twenty-first day of Janu-
ary, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-nine.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
No. 3 of 1879.
EXHIBITION OF FLASHING WHITE LIGHT ON PUY-
SEGUR POINT, SOUTH-WESTERN EXTREMITY OF
MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, 24th January, 1879.
WITH reference to the preliminary notice issued by
this department, dated the 22nd day of October,
1877, it is hereby notified that, on and after Saturday,
the 1st day of March next, a Light will be exhibited
from the Lighthouse which has been erected on
Puysegur Point, the position and characteristics of
which are as follow:—
The Puysegur Point Lighthouse is situated on the
point of that name, at the south-western extremity of
the Middle Island, New Zealand.
The Tower is 40 feet in height, built of timber and
painted white. The Light will be a FIRST ORDER
FLASHING WHITE LIGHT, visible all round as
far as the land will allow, and showing a flash every
TEN SECONDS.
The Light is elevated 180 feet above the sea, and,
allowing 15 feet for the height of the eye, will be
seen at a distance of about 19 nautic miles in clear
weather, and at lesser distances according to the
state of the atmosphere.
