Municipality of Green Island proclaimed a Borough
under "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifteenth section of " The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," it is
enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation,
declare any of the several places specified in the
Third Schedule to the said Act in which a Municipal
Corporation has been established under the provi-
sions of an Ordinance of the Province of Otago
intituled "The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordi-
nance, 1865," to be a borough constituted under the
said "Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," from a
day to be named in such Proclamation; subject,
however to certain conditions in the said section
mentioned: And whereas the Municipality of Green
Island, in the Provincial District of Otago, is one of
the places specified in the said Third Schedule, and a
petition has been presented to His Excellency the
Governor by fifty-one of the ratepayers of such
town praying him to constitute such municipality
into a borough under the said "Municipal Cor-
porations Act, 1876," and such petition was, on
the seventeenth day of November, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-seven, publicly notified,
and no petition from an equal or greater number of
such ratepayers was presented to His Excellency
within two months after such public notification
praying him not to assent to the prayer of such first-
mentioned petition:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities
enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim
and declare that from the eighteenth day of January,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, the
said Municipality of Green Island shall be a borough
constituted under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and shall be called the Borough of Green
Island, and that the boundaries of such borough shall
be those specified in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Otago, in the Colony of New Zealand, containing by
admeasurement one hundred and three (103) acres,
more or less, comprising the private Townships of
Green Island and Kingston, situate in the Lower Kai-
korai District, being Sections numbered respectively
seventy-eight (78), seventy-nine (79), eighty (80),
eighty-one (81), ninety-one (91), ninety-two (92),
ninety-three (93), ninety-four (94), and two hundred
and ninety-six R (296R), and parts of Sections num-
bered respectively sixty-five (65), seventy-six (76),
seventy-seven (77), eighty-two (82), ninety (90), and
ninety-five (95) on the map of the said Lower Kai-
korai District. Bounded towards the North-east by
other part of said Section numbered ninety (90),
two thousand and fifty (2050) links; towards the
North by the Kaikorai Stream, two thousand four
hundred and sixty (2460) links; towards the East
by Section numbered sixty-four (64), one thousand
nine hundred and twenty (1920) links; towards the
South by a road line, five hundred and forty (540)
links; towards the South-east by a road line, one
thousand six hundred (1600) links; towards the
South-west by other part of the said Section num-
bered eighty-two (82), one thousand nine hundred
and eighty (1980) links; again towards the South
by the Main South Road, one thousand and sixty
(1060) links; towards the West-south-west by a
road line, two thousand one hundred (2100) links;
and towards the North-west by Block numbered six
(VI.), Dunedin and East Taieri District, two thou-
sand three hundred (2300) links.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
