Appointing Polling-places for Subdivisions of Mount
Somers Road District.
NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS by section ninety-four of "The
Canterbury Roads Ordinance, 1872," it is
enacted that "in every district divided into sub-
divisions, the Superintendent shall, within fifteen
days after any subdivision of such district shall
become such subdivision, appoint in and for such sub-
division one place to be the place of polling at all
elections held in and for such subdivision, and he
may from time to time afterwards appoint in lieu
thereof another such place within such subdivision:"
And whereas by "The Abolition of Provinces Act,
1875," the powers vested in the Superintendent by
the said section are now vested in the Governor:
And whereas the Governor, by Proclamation of even
date herewith, divided the Mount Somers Road
District into the several subdivisions specified in the
Schedule thereto :
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said
Ordinance and Act, do hereby appoint the places
named in the Schedule hereto to be polling-places for
the respective subdivisions under the names of which
such polling-places are set forth.

Governor, this thirty-first day of August,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.

Land temporarily reserved in the Provincial District
of Otago.
NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS by the one hundred and forty-fourth
section of " The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted
that the Governor may from time to time, either by
general or particular description, and whether the
same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale
temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be
then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands
which in his opinion are required for any of the
purposes in the said section mentioned :
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act,
do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in
the Provincial District of Otago described in the
Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the
said Schedule specified.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Otago, containing by admeasurement two (2) acres,
more or less, being the southern half of Section three
(3), now numbered Section three (3), of Block
twenty-two (XXII.), of the Township of Tapanui.
Bounded towards the North by Section now num-
bered 4 of said block, four hundred and seven-
tenths (4007) links; towards the East by Kent
Street, five hundred (500) links; towards the South
by Boundary Street, four hundred and seven-tenths
(4007) links; towards the West by Section 2 of
said block, five hundred (500) links: and traversed
by two water-races; as shown on plan in the office of
the Chief Surveyor at Dunedin. For public gardens.

Governor, this second day of September,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.

Oemetery.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and autho-
rities vested in me by the second section of "The
Cemeteries Management Act, 1877," I, George
Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
appoint the several persons whose names are specified
in the first column of the Schedule hereto to be
Trustees to provide for the maintenance and care of
the public cemetery specified in the second column
of the said Schedule.

into Negotiations for the Purchase of Native Lands
in the North Island.

IN pursuance of the provisions of "The Govern-
ment Native Land Purchases Act, 1877," it is
hereby notified that money has been paid by or on
behalf of Her Majesty the Queen for the purchase
or acquisition of the several blocks of Native land
in the North Island which are more particularly
described and mentioned in the Schedule hereto;
and, further, that negotiations in respect of such
purchases or acquisitions as aforesaid have been
entered into by or on behalf of Her said Majesty.
