The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The estimates of the population are calculated on the number of inhabited houses in each borough, as shown in returns
supplied by the municipal authorities.
The births were 41 fewer than in January.
The deaths were 38 fewer in number than the deaths in January.
Of the deaths, males contributed 44; females, 45: 57 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 64.04
per cent. of the whole number; 41 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
There were 3 deaths of persons of 65 years of age and over: 1 of these persons was a male and 2 females; 1 male of 68
and 1 female of 76 died at Auckland; and 1 female of 73 at Dunedin.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of
February, 1878.
