THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

OPAKAU.
All that block or parcel of land in the Rotorua Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
by the name of Opakau, containing by estimation
2,000 acres or thereabouts. Boundaries commencing
at Te Haumini on Okataina Lake, thence to Te
Moanawaiapu, thence to Ake-ake, thence to Omanu-
hiri on the Tarawera Lake, thence along said lake to
Otangimoana, thence inland to Te Ika, thence to
Otoke, thence to Owhiti on Okataina Lake, thence
to Haumini, the starting point. This block has not
passed the Native Land Court.

TE KOUTU.
All that block or parcel of land in the Rotorua Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
by the name of Te Koute, containing by estimation
5,000 acres or thereabouts. Boundaries commencing
at Tahunapukeko on the Rotorua Lake, thence along
the shore of the said lake to Huaki, thence to
Ngongotaha, thence to Te Hera-a-Parenga, thence to
Hua-Karamuramu, thence to Nga-taiki-o-Manakore;
thence to below Moka, and following the stream there
to Ourare-i-Mokorau, thence east to Angakakahi,
thence to Ohaha, thence by Utuhina Stream to
Tahunapukeko, the commencement. This block has
not passed the Native Land Court.

ROTOHOKAHOKA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Rotorua Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
by the name of Rotohokahoka, and situate in the
forest south-west of Ngongotaha Range, containing
by estimation 20,000 acres or thereabouts. Boun-
daries commencing at Te Tutae-hinu, thence to
Tiraki, thence to Komotangangahere, thence west
to Tawamaru, thence to the Otamaroa Stream near
Ruarei-mokoroa, thence following said stream to
where it leaves the tribal boundary, thence following
said boundary into the forest to the water called
Rotohokahoka, so far as may be required to include
area of 20,000 acres aforesaid. This block has not
passed the Native Land Court.

KAINGAROA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Matata Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
by the name of Kaingaroa, containing by estimation
300,000 acres or thereabouts. Bounded on the East
by the Rangataiki River; on the South by the Kai-
ngaroa No. 1 Block; on the West by the Paeroa and
Rotomahana Blocks, the Tarawera Lake, and the
Haehaenga Block; and on the North by the Opotiki
Confiscation Block. This block has not passed the
Native Land Court.

KAHAKAHAROA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Taupo Dis-
trict, in the Provincial District of Auckland, known
by the name of Kahakaharoa, containing by esti-
mation 2,000 acres or thereabouts. Boundaries com-
mencing at Waihi Stream on Taupo Lake, thence
along the shore of the said lake to the mouth of
Rotomoho Stream, thence up said stream to Te Puke-
a-te-Mura, thence to Te Takanga, thence to Puke-
totara, thence to Reki-reki, thence to Patrahui,
thence to Hauwhenua, thence along the edge of the
forest to Waihi Stream, and down the said stream to
Lake Taupo, the commencement. This block has not
passed the Native Land Court.

TAHARUA.
All that block or parcel of land in the Upper
Mohaka District, in the Provincial District of Wel-
lington, known by the name of Taharua, containing
by estimation 13,900 acres or thereabouts. Bounded
on the South by the Mohaka River; on the East by
the Wharetoto Block; on the North by a portion of
the said Wharetoto Block, and survey lines running
from the mouth of Te Wai-o-te-Whana Stream to
the bush near Patehe; and on the West by survey
lines running generally along the edge of the forest,
from near Patehe to the Mohaka River. This block
has not passed the Native Land Court.

MOHAKA AND MANGATAINOKA.
All those blocks of land in the Upper Mohaka
District, in the Provincial District of Wellington,
known by the name of Mohaka and Mangatainoka,
containing by estimation 58,000 acres or thereabouts.
Bounded on the East by the Kaweka and Te Ranga-
o-Tawhao Blocks; on the North by the Mohaka
River; on the West by the Oamaru Stream and a
line from the said stream to the Ngaruroro River;
and on the South by the said Ngaruroro River.
These blocks have not passed the Native Land Court.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this second day of March, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight.

Authorizing the taking and laying down of Roads
over Land granted to Natives in the Auckland Pro-
vincial District.

NORMANBY, Governor.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
intituled "The Native Lands Act, 1873," it is
enacted that, from and out of any land which may
have heretofore been or may be granted under the
provisions of any of the Acts thereby repealed, or of
that Act, it shall be lawful for the Governor, at any
time thereafter, to take and lay off for public pur-
poses one or more line or lines of road or railway
through the said lands: Provided that the total
quantity of land which may be taken for such line or
lines of road shall not be more than after the rate of
five acres in every one hundred acres: Provided
always that this power shall cease and determine at
the expiration of ten years from the date of the
grant:

And whereas it is expedient that a fit and proper
person should be authorized to take and lay down
roads over the land specified in the Schedule hereto:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of all powers
and authorities enabling me in this behalf, do hereby
authorize Francis Simpson, Assistant Surveyor of
Poverty Bay, to take and lay down roads over the
lands specified in the Schedule hereto, and for that
purpose to exercise all such powers as by the said
Act may be exercised by a person legally authorized
in that behalf under the said Act.
