south of the Kohi Stream. Plans of the land pro-
posed to be taken will lie open for inspection at Mr.
John McLean's residence, Okotuku. Also that the
Wairoa Highway Board propose to make a side
cutting 24 chains long, and a block cutting 34 chains
long, and for such purpose require to take from
Section 449 (Education Reserve), Okotuku District,
land one chain wide, commencing about two chains
north of the south-west corner of Section 426, and
running in a north-westerly and north-easterly
direction about six chains till its intersection with
the Government surveyed road. Plans of the pro-
posed work and the land to be taken will lie open
for inspection at Mr. John McLean's residence,
Okotuku. All persons affected are hereby required
to set forth in writing well-grounded objections to
the taking of such land, and to send such writing
within forty days from the first publication hereof to
the above-named Wairoa Highway Board.
As witness the seal of the Wairoa Highway
Board, this 22nd day of February, 1878.

THE Mount Somers Road Board hereby notify
that, in accordance with the provisions of "The
Public Works Act, 1876," it is their intention to
abandon the existing road through R.S. 9313 and
R.S. 9314, Ashburton Gorge, and in lieu thereof to
acquire such portion of the aforesaid sections as
shown and set forth in plan and description now
lying for inspection at the Road Board Office, Mount
Somers; and all persons thereby affected are called
upon to set forth in writing any well-grounded
objections to the taking of such lands, and to send
the same within forty days of the date hereof to the
Chairman of the Road Board, Mount Somers.

TAKE NOTICE that it is intended to construct a
Water-Race and divert three Government heads
of water, to be used for domestic, industrial, irriga-
tion, and finally for gold-mining purposes (when not
required for the aforesaid domestic, industrial, and
irrigation), commencing at a point in the gorge in
the Waikerikeri Creek, close to the head of James
Holt's Race, and terminating above the Dunstan
Hospital, on the east bank of the Molyneux.
The length of such race is eight (8) miles or
thereabout, and its intended course is in conjunction
with James Holt's Race from the starting point as
far as Section 69, Block II., Leaning Rock District,
or thereabout; thence through said Sections 69, 68,
67, 45, 44, 43, 42, and 41 of said block, held by the
freehold in the Waikerikeri Valley; and thence in
conjunction again with James Holt's Race, as far as
Williams Pound Farm; and thence through said
farm across the public road to Montechristo Farm;
and thence to the point of destination through the
Dunstan Flat, on the Molyneux River.

known as Papakaio Pre-emptive Road.
