Establishment of Local District and Land Officer at
Orepuki.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the twenty-fouth section of "The
Land Act, 1877," it is enacted that the
Governor, by Proclamation in the Gazette, may from
time to time establish and define, abolish, alter, or
reconstitute local districts for the sale or disposal of
land, and in like manner may from time to time
appoint Land Officers or other persons for conducting
sales of land in such local districts, and for receiving
applications for the sale, letting, disposal, or occupa-
tion of Crown lands, and for generally carrying into
effect the provisions of the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that
the district described in the First Schedule hereto is
established, defined, and constituted a local district
for the sale and disposal of land under the said Act;
and that the Land Office the name of which is in the
said Schedule set opposite the name of the said local
district is appointed the Land Office for the said
local district; and that the person named in the Second
Schedule hereto is appointed the Land Officer for
conducting sales of land in such local district, and for
receiving applications for the sale, letting, disposal,
or occupation of Crown land, and for generally carry-
ing into effect the provisions of the said Act in and
for the district the name of which is in the said
Second Schedule set opposite the name of such
person.

Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council;
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the Govern-
ment House, at Auckland, this eighteenth
day of February, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.

Setting apart Lands in Southland for Deferred
Payments.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifty-fourth section of "The
Mines Act, 1877," it is provided that it shall
be lawful for the Governor to cause Crown lands
situate within a mining district to be selected and
set apart for the purpose of granting agricultural
leases, or for alienation by occupation licenses on
deferred payments, under any law for the time being
in force in the land district in which such mining
district is situate; and before such lands are opened
for application the Governor may determine the size
of the allotments, not exceeding the maximum which
may be held by any person under any such lease or
license:
