Division of the Colony into Districts under "The
Land Tax Act, 1878."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-sixth day of November, 1878.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Land Tax Act, 1878," it is,
among other things, enacted that the Governor
in Council shall divide the colony into districts for
the purposes of the said Act, and shall fix a day when
the same shall come into operation and have the force
of law:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, by and with the consent of the
Executive Council of the colony, and in exercise of
the powers and authorities vested in me by the said
Act, do hereby order and declare that the Colony of
New Zealand shall be and the same is hereby divided
into six districts, having the names mentioned in the
First Schedule hereto; and that the boundaries of
such districts shall be those set forth in the second
column of the said Schedule, opposite the name of
each district respectively; and that the said districts
shall comprise the several counties and all boroughs
within the said counties, as set forth in the second
column of the Second Schedule hereto, opposite the
name of each district respectively; and with the like
advice and consent do hereby order and declare that
the said division shall come into operation on the
twenty-seventh day of November instant.

the ocean; towards the North-west and West
by the south-eastern and eastern boundaries
of Whakatane County; towards the North-
west by the south-eastern boundaries of East
Taupo County and Manawatu County; to-
wards the West by Wanganui County and
Manawatu County; towards the South by
Wairarapa East County and Wairarapa West
County. |
| Nelson ... | Is bounded towards the East, South, West,
and North-west by the ocean; towards the
North by the southern boundaries of Wai-
pawa, Hawke's Bay, East and West Taupo
Counties; towards the East by the western
boundary of West Taupo County; towards
the North-west by the south-eastern boundary
of Kawhia County. |
| Canterbury ... | Is bounded towards the East, North, and
West by the ocean; towards the South by the
northern boundaries of the Ashley, Selwyn,
and Lake Counties. |
| Otago | Is bounded towards the East by the ocean;
towards the North by the southern boundaries
of the Cheviot, Amuri, and Grey Counties;
towards the South and South-west by the nor-
thern and north-eastern boundaries of Waitaki
County; towards the West by the eastern
boundary of Westland County; towards the
South-east by the north-western boundaries
of Vincent and Lake Counties. |
