Fields, the particulars of which are stated in the
Schedule hereto: And whereas in some of the cases
mentioned in the said Schedule the applications have
been abandoned, and no leases have been issued, and
in other cases the ground has been abandoned after
the issue of the leases, and in neither of the cases
herein referred to have the conditions of the leases
been fulfilled, nor has the rent been paid: It is
hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor
has been pleased to pronounce the said leases for-
feited and cancelled, and that the ground held under
the said leases, or under the applications for the
same, is, so far as the said leases or applications are
concerned, but without prejudice to any other rights
or interests that may affect the same, open for
occupation under "The Mines Act, 1877," and any
rules and regulations made thereunder.

A s the Anniversary of the Prince of Wales' Birth-
day falls this year on a Saturday, it has been
decided that Monday, the 11th November, shall be
observed as a holiday instead of Saturday, the 9th, as
previously notified. Post Offices and Telegraph
Stations will therefore be closed on Monday, the
11th proximo; Sunday hours being observed at all
Telegraph Stations.

Changing Purpose of Reserve in the Provincial
District of Canterbury.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Go-
vernor intends, under the provisions of the one
hundred and forty-eighth section of "The Land Act,
1877," to change the specific purpose of the land
described in the second column of the Schedule hereto
for which the land was heretofore set apart as a
reserve, as specified in the first column of the said
Schedule, to the specific purposes specified in the third
column of the said Schedule.
