SOUTHLAND COUNTY.
I HEREBY give notice that, in pursuance of the
powers granted by "The Public Works Act,
1876," the Southland County Council did, on 26th
September ultimo, declare the following road to be a
County Road within the meaning of the said Act,
namely:--
Road from Waikaia towards Tapanui, distance
about four miles.

STOPPAGE OF ROAD IN WAIROA DISTRICT.
NOTICE is hereby given, by the Wairoa District
Board, that, under and by virtue of the powers
vested in them in that behalf by "The Public Works
Act, 1876," it is the intention of the said Board to
proceed, in manner provided by the said Act, to stop
up that portion of the public road in the Wairoa
Highway District, in the Provincial District of
Auckland, running through or along the lands a
portion of Lot No. 4 and Lot No. 5 of the Parish of
Taupo, in the said district, as the same is more
particularly shown upon the plan prepared by the
said Board, in accordance with the said Act. And
take further notice that the said plan now lies open
for public inspection at the residence of Mr. William
Moore, at Wairoa, in the said district, and will
continue to be open for such inspection for twelve
consecutive weeks from the date of the first publi-
cation of this notice.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO GRANT MINERAL
LEASES UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877."
IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations
made under that Act for the granting of mineral
leases, it is hereby notified that it is intended, at
the expiration of thirty days from the publication of
this notice, to grant leases for coal-mining purposes
of Crown lands to the applicants specified in the
annexed Schedule, but with permission to mine be-
neath the surface only.
Copy of the applications made, together with plans
and papers annexed, may be seen at the Crown Lands
Office at Dunedin.
SCHEDULE.

APPLICANT: James Lawrence. Style under which
it is intended to conduct the business: "Wallsend
Coal Pit." Area: 9 acres 0 roods 11 perches.
Locality: Section 7, Block I., Bannockburn Mining

Pryde. Style under which it is intended to conduct
the business: "The Kawarau Colliery." Area: 20

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT A WATER-
RACE.
Tuapeka, 15th October, 1878.
To the Warden at Lawrence.
WE hereby give notice that we intend to apply
to construct a Water-race to divert and use
water for mining purposes, commencing at a point
in the second north-western branch of Gabriel's
Gully, 400 yards below the present lifting point of
Water-race Certificate No. 467, and terminating at
No. 1 Mining Lease Claim Battery, Blue Spur.
The length of such race is four miles or thereabout;
and its intended course is south, running between
the Hibernian and Otago Company's Water-races.
The mean depth of such race is 2 feet, and the
mean breadth is 2 feet 6 inches; and it is pro-
posed to divert five Government-heads of water.
And we hereby give notice that we intend to apply
to construct a dam-bank and form a reservoir for
the storage of water in the first north-western branch
of Gabriel's Gully, and that the following are the
particulars respecting such dam and reservoir:--
(1.) Locality: About 300 yards below the Hiber-
nian Reservoir. (2.) Length of dam: 210 feet. (3.)
Greatest height: 60 feet. (4.) Greatest breadth of
base: 120 feet. (5.) Area of reservoir: 260 yards by
70 yards. Time estimated for construction, six
months.

NOTICE OF RESOLUTION DECLARING COMPANY
FAIRLY WOUND-UP.
NOTICE is hereby given that, at an Extraordinary
General Meeting of the Fiji Banking and Com-
mercial Company (Limited), held at the Bank of New
Zealand, Auckland, on Monday, the 14th day of
October, at the hour of 2 o'clock in the afternoon,
pursuant to notice in that behalf duly gazetted in
the New Zealand Gazette and in the New Zealand
Herald, a newspaper published in Auckland afore-
said, a resolution was duly passed in the words
following, viz :--
"That this general meeting of the Fiji Banking
and Commercial Company (Limited), in liquidation,
approves of the winding-up accounts of the Liqui-
dator, and declares that the affairs of the Company
have been fairly wound-up, and that the said Company
be forthwith dissolved.
