The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The births were 58 more in number than in August.
The deaths were 6 less in number than the deaths in August.
Of the deaths, males contributed 63; females, 36: 43 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 43
per cent. of the whole number; 35 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
There were 12 deaths of persons over 65 years of age: 2 of these persons were females and 10 were males; 3 males, of 67, 72,
and 86 years, and 1 female of 70 years, died at Auckland; 2 males of 75 and 84 years, and 1 female of 67 years, died at Wellington;
1 male of 73 years died at Christchurch; 3 males of 70, 76, and 92 years died at Dunedin; and 1 male of 78 years died at
Hokitika.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of
September, 1878.
