Members of Oamaru Harbour Board appointed.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the seventh section of the Ordi-
nance of the Superintendent and Provincial
Council of the Province of Otago, shortly intituled
"The Oamaru Harbour Board Ordinance, 1874," it is
enacted that "so often as any person being a member
of the Board, otherwise than as Mayor of Oamaru,
shall die, resign, become incapable to act, or be re-
moved or absent from the said Province of Otago for
the space of six consecutive calendar months, it shall
be the duty of the Superintendent to appoint, by Pro-
clamation in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette,
another fit and proper person to be a member of the
Board, in the room or stead of the person so dying,
resigning, becoming incapable, or being removed or
absent as aforesaid:"

And whereas by the seventh section of "The Aboli-
tion of Provinces Act, 1875," it is, among other
things, enacted that "all powers, duties, and func-
tions which, immediately before the date of the aboli-
tion hereunder of any province, were, under or by
virtue of any law not expressly or impliedly repealed
or altered hereby, vested in or to be exercised or
performed by the Superintendent of such abolished
province, either alone or with the advice and consent
of or on the recommendation of the Executive or
Provincial Council of such province, shall, on the
date of the abolition of such province, and for
the purposes of the district included within such
abolished province, vest in and be exercised and per-
formed by the Governor:"

And whereas the Province of Otago has been
abolished under the provisions of "The Abolition of
Provinces Act, 1875:"

And whereas James Lees, Esquire, and John Stubbs
Wait, Esquire, two of the members of the said Board,
have been respectively absent from the Provincial
District of Otago for the space of six consecutive
calendar months, and it is therefore necessary that
two other persons should be appointed to be mem-
bers of the said Board as hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of

New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of every
power and authority vested in me in that behalf, do
proclaim and appoint

The Honorable HENRY JOHN MILLER and
The Honorable ROBERT CAMPBELL

to be Members of the Oamaru Harbour Board, in the
room of the persons so absent as aforesaid.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl
of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-ninth day of November, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-seven.

trict of Timaru, and constituting District of
Geraldine.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Resident Magistrates Act,
1867," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor from time to time, by Proclamation in
the New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout
the colony, or in any part thereof, districts to be
called Resident Magistrates' Districts, and such
districts from time to time to abolish, and the
