Re-defining Districts under "The Licensing Act, 1873."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Licensing Act, 1873," it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be
after the passing of the said Act, by Proclamation in
the Government Gazette, define such territorial divi-
sions as he may think proper to be Licensing Districts
for the purposes of the said Act, and from time to
time may alter and redefine the boundaries of the
same:

And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-third day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-four, the Districts of East Cape
and Poverty Bay were, amongst others, constituted
under the said "Licensing Act, 1873:" And whereas
it is expedient to alter and redefine the boundaries
thereof:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore recited Act, and of every power and
authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby, from
and after the first day of December next, alter and
redefine the boundaries of the said Districts of East
Cape and Poverty Bay, as the same are defined and
set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

EAST CAPE DISTRICT.

Bounded towards the North and East by the sea
from Matakawa Point to Motu Heka Point, Tolago
Bay; towards the South by a right line from Motu
Heka Point, running due west, to the summit of
the watershed near the source of the Rangiriri River;
and towards the North-west by the Opotiki and Cape
Runaway Licensing Districts, including the adjacent
Islands.

POVERTY BAY DISTRICT.

Bounded towards the North by the East Cape
Licensing District to Motu Heka Point, Tolago Bay;
towards the East by the sea to Paretu; towards the
South by a right line from Paretu to the confluence
of the Waiau and Waikare Taheke Rivers; towards
the West and North-west by the Opotiki Licensing
District, including the adjacent Islands.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,

Trustee under "The Maori Real Estate Manage-
ment Act, 1867."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
seventeenth day of November, 1877.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Maori Real Estate Manage-
ment Act, 1867" (hereinafter called "the
said Act"), it is enacted that if any title to or
interest in any hereditaments shall accrue to any
Maoris, who or any of whom shall be infants,
lunatics, or under legal disability, it shall be lawful
for the Governor in Council, if he think fit, to order
that such hereditaments, or any part thereof or
interest therein as shall to the Governor in Council
be shown to belong to such infant, lunatic, or other
person under legal disability, shall be vested in
trustees, as the Governor in Council shall think fit:

And whereas by an order bearing date the twenty-
ninth day of November, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-five, under the hand of John Rogan,
Esquire, Judge of the Native Land Court, under the
seal of the said Court, it was ordered that a memo-
rial of the ownership of Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi,
Erena Heni, and others to the lands described in the
Schedule hereto be inscribed on the Court rolls:

And whereas the said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi,
and Erena Heni are infants under the age of twenty-
one years, and it is expedient that Peti Morete
(Betty Morris), half-caste, of Poverty Bay, be ap-
pointed trustee under the said Act on behalf of the
said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the colony, in exercise and in
pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in
him by the said Act, doth hereby order that the
interests and shares of the said Riripeti Harata,
Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni in the land described
in the Schedule hereto shall be and remain vested in

PETI MORETE (BETTY MORRIS) half-caste,
as Trustee, within the meaning and for the purposes
of the said Act, for the said Riripeti Harata, Mere
Roihi, and Erena Heni during their minority.
