Arrangements for First Elections, Borough of
North-East Valley.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
seventeenth day of October, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven.

Polling Places for Mount Somers Road District
appointed.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING.

KNOW ye that in exercise and pursuance of the
powers vested in me by "The Canterbury
Roads Ordinance, 1872," and "The Abolition of Pro-
vinces Act, 1875," I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby appoint the Woolshed,
Alford Station, and the Road Board Office, Mount
Somers, to be polling places for the Mount Somers
Road District.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this thirty-first day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven.

HUGH MCFADYEN
to be Town Clerk of the Borough of North-East
Valley, and

JAMES REID
to be Returning Officer, to hold the first election
of Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors of the said
borough.

Also, to appoint Wednesday, the 28th day of
November, for the election of Mayor; and Thursday,
the 29th day of November, for the election of Coun-
cillors; and Monday, the 3rd day of December, for
the election of Auditors of the said borough.

Also, to appoint Thursday, the 6th day of Decem-
ber, at noon, for the first meeting of the Council of
the said borough, and the Schoolhouse, North-East
Valley, to be the place of such meeting.

Inspector for the Nelson South District, is
published for general information.

Cattle Inspector's Office,
Wairau, 17th October, 1877.

SIR,—I have the honor to report that since the
date of my last return, made in compliance with your
circular letter No. 12, of 1st May, 1876, no informa-
tion of the supposed existence of disease within the
Nelson South District has been received by me; that
a mob of cattle (19 in number) brought from the
infected district of Kaikoura were detained here for
eighteen weeks by order of the Government, and that
during that period (being under my charge) they
showed no symptoms of disease.

I have also the honor to forward a return of the
inspection of cattle for the six months ending 30th
September, 1877.
