Constituting Rabbit District of Hokanui.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by section 3 of "The Rabbit Nuisance
Act, 1876," it is enacted that the Governor
in Council may, on receipt of a petition duly signed
by not less than ten landowners residing within any
district proposed to be proclaimed under the said
Act, cause the prayer and substance of such petition
to be gazetted and publicly notified, and, unless a
counter petition by an equal or greater number
of landowners to the contrary is received by the
Governor within thirty days from the date of such
publication, the Governor may, by Proclamation,
constitute and declare the area described by such
petition to be a district for the purposes of the said
Act, by some specific name: And whereas a petition
has been received under the said Act, signed by not
less than ten landowners residing within the area
described in the Schedule hereto, praying that such
area may be declared a Rabbit District under the
said Act, and the Governor in Council has caused
the prayer and substance of such petition to be duly
gazetted and publicly notified as by the said Act
required, and no counter petition, as prescribed by
the said Act, has been received by the Governor:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the said
Act, do hereby proclaim, constitute, and declare the
area described in the Schedule hereto to be a district
for the purposes of the said Act, and the name of such
district to be Hokanui. And I do further direct that
Saturday, the twenty-fifth day of August, now next,
at twelve noon, at the Homestead of Patrick Kinney
McCaughan, Esquire, at Wantwood, Gore, Southland,
shall be the time and place for holding a meeting of
the land owners of such district for the purpose of
electing either three or five persons to be the trustees
of such district, for the purposes of the said Act.

BOUNDARIES OF HOKONUI DISTHICTΡ.
BOUNDED on the West by the Winton Stream till it
crosses a public road running about ten chains south-
west of a Trigonometrical Station XX., Hokonui
District; thence by said public road to section one
hundred and thirty-six A, Hokonui District; thence
by sections one hundred and thirty-six A, two
hundred and seventy-four, two hundred and thirty-
nine, and two hundred and seventy-five, Hokonui
District; thence on the south-west and south by
sections two hundred and seventy-five and two
hundred and forty; on the West by the Oreti River
and the Irthing Stream; thence by the Main Road
to the Paiherewao; thence by the Paiherewao to the
Mataura; thence by the Mataura to the north
boundary of the Lindhurst Hundred; on the South
by the Lindhurst Hundred; on the West by the
Given under the hand of His Excellency
the Most Honorable George Augustus
Constantine, Marquis of Normanby,
Earl of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby,
and Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in
the County of York, in the Peerage of
the United Kingdom; and Baron Mul-
grave of New Ross, in the County of
Wexford, in the Peerage of Ireland; a
Member of Her Majesty's Most Honor-
able Privy Council; Knight Commander
of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George; Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over
