Division of Borough of Westport into Three Wards,
under "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Municipal Corporations Act,
1876," section twenty-one, it is enacted that
if not less than one-fourth of the burgesses of a
borough petition the Governor, praying him to divide
such borough into wards, the Governor may, by
Proclamation, divide such borough into not less than
three nor more than six wards, and shall in such
Proclamation assign such names and boundaries to
each ward as he thinks fit: And whereas not less
than one-fourth of the burgesses of the Borough of
Westport have petitioned me to divide such borough
into wards:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
hereinbefore-recited authority, and by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that
the Borough of Westport shall be and the same is
hereby divided into three wards, having the names
mentioned in the first column of the Schedule
hereto; and that the boundaries of such wards shall
be those set forth in the second column of the said
Schedule opposite the name of each ward respectively.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George; Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said

Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this tenth day of April, in
the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-seven.

SCHEDULE.

Name of Ward. . Boundaries of Ward.
North Ward ... Bounded on the Northward by the high watermark of the South Pacific Ocean; on the Eastward partly by a straight line, bearing 155°53′, drawn from the aforesaid high water-mark in the direction of Domett Street to the north-east corner of the Municipal Reserve; thence by Domett Street, 155°53′, 1920 links; on the Southward by a straight line, bearing 245° 53′, drawn from the aforesaid linkage point in Domett Street partly through the Municipal Reserve and partly along the centre of Henley Street to the banks of the River Buller; and on the Westward by the banks of the River Buller from the centre of Henley Street to the northern boundary as given above.
Middle Ward... Bounded on the Northward by the southern boundary of the aforesaid North Ward; on the Eastward by Domett Street, 155° 53′, 2780 links; on the Southward by a straight line, bearing 245° 53′, drawn from aforesaid linkage point in Domett Street partly through the Municipal Reserve and partly along the centre of Wakefield Street to the banks of the River Buller; and on the Westward by the banks of the River Buller from the centre of Wakefield Street to the northern boundary of this ward, as given above.
South Ward ... Bounded on the Northward by the southern boundary of the aforesaid Middle Ward; on the Eastward by Domett Street, 155° 53', 7065 links; on the Southward partly by Daniell Street, 245° 53′, 5025 links, partly by a continuation of Palmerston Street, 155° 53', 500 links, and partly by a line between Sections 7A and 5, to the banks of the River Buller, bearing 245° 53'; and on the Westward by the banks of the River Buller from the aforesaid line between Sections 7A and 5 to the northern boundary of this ward, as given above.
