"The Protection of Animals Act, 1873."
NORMANBY, Governor.
A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by section ten of "The Protection of
Animals Act, 1873," it is enacted that no game
(in the said Act defined as including the birds and
animals particularized in the first Schedule hereto,
and such other imported animals and birds as should
from time to time be proclaimed to come within the
operation of this Act,) shall be hunted, shot, taken, or
killed in any province until the same shall have been
proclaimed as open for that purpose by a Procla-
mation in that behalf to be made and published in
the Gazette; and that no game shall be hunted, shot,
taken, or killed except within a consecutive period
not exceeding three months of any year to be fixed
by the Superintendent by Proclamation as aforesaid,
between the first day of May and the thirty-first day
of July, both inclusive, in any year, and only between
the hours of sunrise and sunset: And whereas by
the eleventh section of the said Act, it is enacted
that no native game (therein defined as including the
birds and animals in the fifth Schedule hereto, and
any other native animals and birds which should
from time to time be proclaimed to come within the
provisions relating to native game,) shall be hunted,
shot, taken, or killed in any part of the province
except during such months as may from time to time
be proclaimed by the Superintendent, not exceeding
four consecutive months in respect of each bird:
And whereas by "The Abolition of Provinces Act,
1875," it is enacted, that all powers, duties, and
functions which immediately before the date of the
abolition thereunder of any province were vested in
or to be exercised or performed by the Superinten-
dent of such abolished province should, on the day of
the date of the abolition of such province, and for
the purposes of the district included within such
abolished province, vest in and be exercised and per-
formed by the Governor:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of New Zealand, in
exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on
me by the said recited Acts, and in exercise of any
other power enabling me in that behalf, do hereby
proclaim and declare that game shall be open to be
hunted, shot, taken, or killed within the Provincial
District of Otago between the first day of June, 1877,
and the 31st day of July, in the same year, both in-
clusive, but only between the hours of sunrise and
sunset; and I do further proclaim and declare that
it shall be lawful to hunt, shoot, take or kill any
native game in the Provincial District of Otago,
during the months of April, May, June, and July,
1877.
SCHEDULES.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
Game.
PHEASANTS, partridges, grouse, black game, ptar-
migan, quails, snipe, plover, swans, hares, antelope,
deer, imported wild duck of any species.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
Native Game.
Wild duck of any species, bittern, pied stilt plover,
wild geese, dotterell, tui, native pigeon, teal, black
stilt plover, curlew, quail.

of the same; and issued under the Seal

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-seventh day of March, 1877.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in him by "The Building Societies Act, 1876,"
His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby
make the following regulation respecting the fees to
be paid by Societies to Revising Barristers, that is
to say,-
Every Society whose rules or any amendments
thereof shall be certified to by the Revising Barrister
appointed under the said Act shall pay to such
Revising Barrister a fee of five pounds five shillings:
Provided always that the said Revising Barrister
shall be entitled to no further fee in respect of any
amendment of any rules he may certify to if one
fee has already been paid within the period of three
years next before the giving of such certificate.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the second section of "The
Animals Importation and Prohibition Act,
1876," it is, among other things, enacted, that the
Governor in Council may from time to time make,
alter, or vary, and may revoke such orders as may
seem to be necessary for the purpose of absolutely
prohibiting the introduction into New Zealand from
any country or colony of all cattle, sheep, or swine:
