Application for the Registration of a Trade Mark.
NOTICE is hereby given, that CHARLES WHITE,
Patents Agent and Agent for the Registration
of Trade Marks, of Wellington, has applied, on
behalf of ALEXANDER THOMSON, of Dunedin, in the
Province of Otago, to register, under "The Trade
Marks Act, 1866," the Trade Mark of which the
following is a description, viz:-
Description of Trade Mark.
A paper label, ten inches and eight-tenths of
an inch in length by six inches and eight-tenths
of an inch in depth, having printed thereon, in
black ink, the words and figures of which the fol-
lowing is a description:--The centre portion of
the said label, five inches wide, purports to contain
a half-length portrait of Dr. Albert Bright, which
portrait is surrounded by an oval thin black line,
having on the outside thereof a line with pointed
edging, the background of the picture being shaded.
Above the portrait are the words "Dr. Albt. Bright's
World-famed Sarsaparilla," the first three words
being unshaded block letters, the next two words
small black letters, on a flowing ribbon, and the
word Sarsaparilla being larger letters, shaded black.
Beneath the portrait are the words and figures
"Philadelphia Exhibition, 1876;" on the right and
left of the portrait are flags representing the ensign
of England and the national flag of the United
States of America, the tops of the poles being sur-
mounted by spearheads, and placed in an oblique
direction from the centre and back of the portrait.
The intervening spaces are filled up with scrolls and
ornamental designs, and the whole is surrounded by
two black lines. On the left hand of the foregoing
described centre portion of the label are the following
words:-" Diarrhœa, Dropsy, Dysentery, Erysipelas,
Epilepsy, Female Irregularities, Fever of all kinds,
Fits, Gout, Guinea Worm, Headaches, Impotency
from all causes, Indigestion, Inflammation, Influ-
enza, Jaundice, Liver Complaints, Lumbago, Piles,
Rheumatism, Retention of Urine, Sore Throats,
Scrofula or King's Evil, Stone and Gravel, Secon-
dary Symptoms, Tic Doloureux, Tumorous Ulcers,
Venereal Affections, Worms of all kinds, Weakness
from whatever cause, &c." "Directions" (in larger
type forming a line of itself): "A wine-glassful
three or four times a day, taken in cold water,
wine, or spirits." "Caution" (in larger type,
forming a line of itself): "None genuine unless
the white capsule bear the following words (em-
bossed):-'Dr. Albert Bright, Philadelphia Exhibi-
tion,' and the signature, 'Dr. Albert Bright,' on
each label;" then follows a facsimile of the signature
of Dr. Albert Bright. On the right hand of the
before-described centre portion of the label are the
words: "This inestimable specific being composed
entirely of medicinal herbs, is free from any
mercurial or other deleterious substance, innoxious
to the tenderest infant or to the weakest constitution,
and equally prompt and sure in eradicating disease
from the most robust frame; it is perfectly safe in
its operation and effects; it searches out and removes
complaints of every character and in every stage,
however long standing or deeply rooted. Of the
thousands cured by its agency, many who were on
the verge of the grave by persevering in its use have
been restored to health and strength after every other
means had failed. The most afflicted need not resign
himself to despair, but let him make a fair trial of
the mighty powers of this astonishing medicine, and
he will soon be restored to the blessings of health.
Waste no time in taking this remedy for any of the
following diseases :--"Ague, Asthma, Bilious Com-
plaints, Blotches on the Skin, Bowel Complaints,
Bronchitis, Colics, Constipation of the Bowels, Con-
sumption, Debility, Diphtheria," The bottle to which
this label will be attached will be coloured red, either
painted, varnished, or enamelled.
Nature of the Article to which it is intended such
Trade Mark shall apply.
A medicinal compound known as "Sarsaparilla."
