Appointing Peti Morete (Betty Morris), half-caste, Trustee under “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867.”

NORMANBY, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of December, 1877.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), it is enacted that if any title to or interest in any hereditaments shall accrue to any Maoris, who or any of whom shall be infants, lunatics, or under legal disability, it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, if he think fit, to order that such hereditaments, or any part thereof or interest therein as shall to the Governor in Council be shown to belong to such infant, or lunatic, or other person under legal disability, shall be vested in trustees, as the Governor in Council shall think fit:

And whereas by an order bearing date the twenty-ninth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five, under the hand of John Rogan, Esquire, Judge of the Native Land Court, under the seal of the said Court, it was ordered that a memorial of the ownership of Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni, and others, to the lands described in the Schedule hereto be inscribed on the Court rolls:

And whereas the said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni are infants under the age of twenty-one years, and it is expedient that Peti Morete (Betty Morris), half-caste, of Poverty Bay, be appointed trustee under the said Act, on behalf of the said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, doth hereby order that the interests and shares of the said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni in the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be and remain vested in

PETI MORETE (BETTY MORRIS) half-caste,

as Trustee, within the meaning and for the purposes of the said Act, for the said Riripeti Harata, Mere Roihi, and Erena Heni during their minority.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, situate at Poverty Bay, in the District of Hawke’s Bay, containing about four thousand eight hundred (4,800) acres, more or less, being called or known by the name of Mangaoae.

Bounded on the North by survey lines separating this block from Native land; on the West by the Waihora River, survey line, and the Otawakepaka Creek; on the South by Mangaoae Stream; on the East by survey lines starting from a point on the Mangaoae called Moutawa, thence to Makuruhuru on the boundary line common to Waihora No. 2. and this block.

Appointing Katerina te Hane Trustee under “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867.”

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, in exercise and in pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, doth hereby order that the interest and share of the said Hine Wehi in the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be and remain vested in

KATERINA TE HANE,

as Trustee, within the meaning and for the purposes of the said Act, for the said Heni Wehi during her minority.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing two thousand eight hundred and forty-nine (2,849) acres, more or less, situate at Poverty Bay, in the District of Hawke’s Bay, being called or known by the name of Waitangi. Bounded on the North by the Waitangi Creek; on the West by survey lines separating the block from Te Pakake a Wirikoka; on the South by the Waingaromia River; and on the East by the Waingaromia River.
