City of Dunedin proclaimed a Borough under "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the fifteenth section of "The
enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation,
declare any of the several places specified in the
Third Schedule to the said Act in which a Municipal
Corporation has been established under the provi-
sions of an Ordinance of the Province of Otago
intituled "The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordi-
nance, 1865," to be a borough constituted under
the said "Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," from
a day to be named in such Proclamation; subject,
however, to certain conditions in the said section
mentioned: And whereas the City of Dunedin, in
the Provincial District of Otago, is one of the places
specified in the said Third Schedule, and a petition
has been presented to His Excellency the Governor
by one hundred and twelve of the ratepayers of such
town, praying him to constitute such town into a
borough under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and such petition was, on the eighteenth
day of October, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven, publicly notified, and no petition
from an equal or greater number of such ratepayers
was presented to His Excellency within two months
after such public notification praying him not to
assent to the prayer of such first-mentioned petition:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities
enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim
and declare that, from the twenty-first day of
December, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven, the said City of Dunedin shall be a borough
constituted under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and shall be called the Borough of
Dunedin; and that the boundaries of such borough
shall be those specified in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF DUNEDIN.

ALL that area known as the Town and Town Belt of
Dunedin, the boundaries whereof are delineated on
the Index Map of the Otago Settlement, No. 80,
deposited in the Survey Office of the Provincial Dis-
trict of Otago, at Dunedin aforesaid, together with
all that area of land in the Provincial District of
Otago, adjacent and opposite to the City of Dunedin,
formerly below high watermark in the harbour of
Otago, but now reclaimed or in course of reclama-
tion from the sea, and declared by "The Otago
Harbour Trust Leasing Ordinance, 1862," to be
included within the City of Dunedin, as the said
area and boundaries thereof are delineated or shown
in the Crown Grant Index Record Map of the
Suburban Districts Central, No. 2, deposited in the
Survey Office of the said Provincial District of
Dunedin aforesaid.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Census Act, 1877," it is
provided that an account shall be taken in
the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight of the number and condition of persons, and of
the live stock, and of the land in cultivation within
New Zealand, and of other particulars relating
thereto; and that such account shall be taken in
such month and on such day or days, not being later
than the first day of April, as the Governor shall by
Proclamation, published in the Gazette, appoint:

Now, therefore I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested by the said Act,
do hereby proclaim and declare that the said account
shall be taken in the month of March, of the year
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, on
Monday, the fourth day of the aforesaid month, and
for the night of Sunday, the third day of the afore-
said month.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twentieth day of December, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven.

WHEREAS by "The Volunteer Act, 1865," the
Governor in Council is authorized from time
