WELLINGTON, THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 1876.

Reserve for Educational Purposes.

WHEREAS by the Regulations for the Sale and Disposal of Lands taken under the authority of “The New Zealand Settlements Act, 1863,” and “The New Zealand Settlements Amendment and Continuance Act, 1865,” contained in the Schedule to an Order in Council made and issued, bearing date the 11th day of May, 1871, it is provided that reserves for roads, and all other public purposes whatever, and for education, and the sites for churches and chapels or other places of worship for different religious denominations, may be made by Government out of any confiscated lands, and that notices of all such reserves shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette: It is hereby notified, that the land specified in the Schedule hereunder written shall be reserved for the purposes therein mentioned and set opposite the description of the said parcel of land.

Section numbered four hundred and forty-nine (449) of the District of Okotuku, containing one hundred (100) acres, more or less. Educational purposes.

Licensing Officer under Arms Act appointed at Oamaru.

ROBERT THOMPSON, Esq.,
Sub-Collector of Customs at the Port of Oamaru, to be a Licensing Officer under “The Arms Act, 1860.”

IN pursuance of the powers delegated to the Commissioner of Customs by His Excellency the Governor, the following appointments have been made in the Customs Department:—

FREDERICK WILLIAM FRANKLAND to be a Cadet at the Port of Wellington. Appointment to date from 1st February, 1876.

THEODORE CRAVEN ASHWIN to be a Cadet at the Port of Wellington. Appointment to date from 1st March, 1876.

ROBERT THOMPSON to be Sub-Collector and Examining Officer at the Port of Oamaru. Appointment to date from 1st March, 1876.

JOSEPH SLATER to be Landing Surveyor at the Port of Wellington. Appointment to date from 20th March, 1876.

RICHARD DIGNAN to be Clerk and Locker at the Port of Oamaru. Appointment to date from 1st April, 1876.
