Defining District of Clyde under "The Licensing
Act, 1873."

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Licensing Act, 1873," it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the Go-
vernor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the
passing of the said Act, by Proclamation in the
Government Gazette, define such territorial divisions
as he may think proper to be Licensing Districts
for the purposes of the said Act, and from time to
time may alter and re-define the boundaries of the same:
And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-third day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-four, the Districts of Blacks,
Clyde, and Town of Clyde, were, amongst others, con-
stituted under the said "Licensing Act, 1873:"
And whereas it is expedient to abolish the said
districts, and define another district in lieu thereof:
Now therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore recited Acts, and of every power
and authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby
abolish the said Districts of Blacks, Clyde, and Town
of Clyde, and do proclaim, constitute, and appoint
that the territorial division, the boundaries whereof
are defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto, shall
be a Licensing District for the purposes of the said
Acts; and that such district shall be known by the
name by which it is designated in the said Schedule:
And I do further proclaim and declare that three
members of the Licensing Court constituted for
such district, inclusive of the Chairman, shall form a
quorum thereof.
SCHEDULE.
CLYDE DISTRICT.
THIS district is bounded towards the North by a
right line due west from the summit of Ben Nevis
on the Hector Mountains to the summit of the Car-
rick Mountains; thence by a right line to the summit
of Cairnmuir Hill; thence towards the North-west
by a right line to the junction of the Leaning Rock
Creek with the Clutha River; thence by the said
creek and a right line to the summit of Leaning Rock
Hill; thence by right lines from peak to peak along
the summit of the Dunstan Mountains, and by a right
line to the source of Lauder Creek; thence towards
the North-east by the Lauder Creek, the Manuherikia
River, and the Pool Burn to its junction with the
Ida Burn, and by the south-western boundary of
Run No. 225 to the Roughridge Hills; thence
towards the East by the summit of the Roughridge
Hills to North Roughridge Hill, and by a right line
thence to the summit of South Roughridge Hill;
thence towards the South-west by a right line to the
point where the road from Clyde to Dunedin crosses
the Raggedy Ranges; thence towards the South by
the said road to the Manuherikia River, and by a
right line to the most southern corner of the Town-
ship of Clyde, as defined in the First Schedule
to "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867;" thence
towards the South-east by a right line to the head of
McLellan's Gully; thence again towards the East by
a right line to the summit of the Obelisk; thence
again towards the South by a right line to the summit
of Lorn Creek; and towards the West by right lines
from peak to peak along the summit of the Hector
Mountains to Ben Nevis, the commencing point.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George; Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depend-
encies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at Wellington, this eighth day
of February, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.
