SUNKEN ROCK IN BANKS STRAIT.
THE accompanying Notice to Mariners is published
for general information.
ROBERT S. ANDERSON,
Commissioner of Trade and Customs.

Department of Trade and Customs,
Melbourne, 15th November, 1875.
A ROCK, with only 10 feet of water on it, has been
discovered by Her Majesty's surveying steamer
"Victoria" off the Black Reef, from which it lies E.
by S. S. three miles.
For the guidance of Mariners, it may be stated
that the rock will take the place of "a 14 fathoms"
upon the Admiralty charts of Banks and Bass's
Straits, marked "as breaking heavily in southerly
gales." As this rock is at the turning point in
Banks Straits, its position is one of great danger.
H. J. STANLEY
Staff Commander in charge of Survey.

Wellington, 30th December, 1875.
THE following Notice to Mariners is published for
general information.
DANIEL POLLEN,

NEW LEADING MARKS FOR PORT MACQUARIE.
MASTERS of vessels trading to Port Macquarie are
hereby informed that a white obelisk has been erected
on the western shore of the harbour to the south-
ward of the cross. The deepest water on the bar
will for the present be found by bringing this obelisk
in line with the round-topped beacon near the
Asylum.
Should the white obelisk be removed it will indi-
cate that the channel has again worked to the south-
ward, and that the old marks, the cross and the
beacon, are to be used.
