purpose of mining for gold, for the establishment of
special settlements, or for the purpose of railway
construction:

And by the said Act it is also provided that it
shall be lawful for the Governor, whenever he shall
have determined to enter into negotiations for the
purchase of such land, to insert a notice in the New
Zealand Gazette that it is his intention to enter into
such negotiations, and after such notice is inserted
it shall not be lawful for any one to purchase or
acquire from the Native owners any right, title, or
interest, or contract for the purchase or acquisition
from the Native owners of any right, title, or
interest, in the lands specified in such notice, unless
the notice be cancelled by the Governor: Provided
that no such notice shall have longer operation than
for the period of two years:

Now therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and in exercise
of the powers thereby vested in me, do hereby give
notice that it is my intention forthwith to enter into
negotiations for the purchase from the Native owners
of the block or parcel of land situate in the Province
of Auckland, and described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

RUAKITURI.

BOUNDED on the North by the Ruakituri River from
Te Reinga to Eripete; thence by a straight line
South-west to the river Manga-o-ruhi; thence by
that river to Mangaruhi West block; thence by the
Mangaruhi West and Mangaruhi East blocks; thence
by the Wairoa River to Te Reinga; containing
52,000 acres, more or less.

TARUMARAMA.

Bounded on the North by the Manga-o-ruhi River,
from Mangaruhi West to its intersection with line
south-west from Eripete to north-east angle of Wai-
karemoana, thence by the lake to the Waikare Taheke,
thence by the Waikare Taheke to the eastern bound-
ary agreed on between Mr. Locke and the Natives
on the 6th of August, 1872, thence by that boundary
to the Manga-o-ruhi River, containing 30,000 acres,
more or less.

TUKURANGI.

Bounded by the Waikare Taheke River from
Waikaremoana to its junction with the Waiau River,
thence by the Waiau River to its junction with the
Waihi Stream till it meets a line drawn south-east
from the Wairau arm of Waikaremoana, thence by
that line to Waikaremoana, thence by the Lake to
Waikare Taheke; containing 37,000 acres, more or
less.

WAIAU.

Bounded by the Tukurangi Block, from the Wairau
branch of Waikaremoana Lake to the Waihi Stream,
thence by that stream to the Waiau River, thence by
that river to Turiwhikatoia, thence by a straight line
to the south-west point of Wairau branch, thence by
that branch to the starting point.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at,
Wellington, this sixth day of Novem-
ber, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-five.

Additional Regulations under "The Forest Trees
Planting Encouragement Act, 1871."

NORMANBY, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
sixth day of November, 1875.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Forest Trees Planting En-
couragement Act, 1871," it is, amongst other
things, enacted, that the Governor in Council may
from time to time make regulations for defining the
number and description of trees to be planted on each
acre, and the other terms and conditions to be fulfilled
by persons claiming a free grant of land under the
provisions of the now reciting Act: And whereas by
an Order in Council, bearing date the 11th day
of May, 1872, certain regulations were made under
the above recited authority: And whereas it is ex-
pedient to make other and additional regulations:

Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the powers and authorities vested in him by the above
recited Act, and by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth
hereby make the following additional Regulations,
and doth order and direct that they shall be read
and incorporated with the regulations contained in
the said Order in Council of the 11th day of May,
1872, such additional regulations to be in force and
to take effect within the Province of Canterbury as
and from the first day of January, 1876.

REGULATIONS.

No person shall be entitled to receive a free grant
of land under the provisions of "The Forest Trees
Planting Encouragement Act, 1871," or a land order
under the provisions of "The Forest Trees Planting
Encouragement Act Amendment Act, 1872," unless
he shall, at the time he makes a claim therefor, pro-
duce to and deposit with the proper officer appointed
by the Superintendent a plan of the land planted with
trees in respect of which he claims such free grant or
land order, showing the marks or numbers by which
such land is known on the record maps in the Crown
Lands Office of the province. The applicant shall
also produce and leave with such officer a statutory
declaration made by him, that to the best of his belief
the boundaries and dimensions of such land are cor-
rectly delineated on such plan, and that no free
grant of land or land order has been previously
granted to any person for or in respect of the plant-
ing the land described in such plan with trees.
