THE Clerk of the Writs has received a Return
to the Writ issued by him on the 7th day of
January instant, for the election of a Member to
serve in the House of Representatives of New
Zealand for the Electoral District hereinafter speci-
fied; and by the indorsement thereon it appears
that the under-mentioned gentleman has been duly
elected Member for such District, viz.,-

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given, that Matthew William
Hawkins, Patents Agent, of Dunedin, in the
Province of Otago, has applied on behalf of Hugh
McNeil, of Dunedin aforesaid, Merchant, trading
there in copartnership with Richard Holt Briscoe, of
Wolverhampton, in that part of the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Ireland called England, and
Arthur Briscoe, of the same place, under the style
or firm of "Arthur Briscoe and Co.," to register
under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the following
trade mark:-

Description of Trade Mark.

A label, printed or written, in letters japanned
upon the top side of the fixed arm of a sewing
machine, called and known by the name of "The
Holt's Strength and Speed Sewing Machine."

The words "Holt's. Strength and Speed" are printed
or written in Egyptian capital letters, about one-sixth
of an inch in height. After the word "Holt's," there
is printed or written a dot or full stop. The whole
is placed between two lines parallel to one another
about six and a half inches long, and about five-
twelfths of an inch apart, and the spaces between the
ends of the said lines are filled in with an ornamental
scroll. The whole is printed or written in gilded
letters and lines.

Nature of the Article to which, it is proposed such
Trade Mark shall apply.

A Sewing Machine for sewing cotton, linen, wool-
len, leather, and other fabrics and materials.

land hereinafter described will be brought under
the provisions of "The Land Transfer Act, 1870,"
unless caveat be lodged forbidding the same within
one calendar month after the publication of this
notice.

JAMES GULLIVER.-2 roods, part of Rural
Section 890, Mandeville District, a rectangular block
fronting 100 links on south boundary of section,
with a depth of 500 links, its south-west corner
being 200 links from south-west corner of section.
Also 5 acres 1 rood 19 perches, other parts of said

links and 670 links respectively on west boundary
of section, with depth of 467 links-the south-west
