Regulations for the Nomination of Immigrants.
NORMANDY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
thirty-first day of August, 1875.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS under and by virtue of the powers
and authorities vested in him for that purpose
by "The Immigration and Public Works Act, 1870,"
and "The Immigration and Public Works Act
Amendment Act, 1871," the Governor did, on or
about the fifteenth day of October, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
three, make certain Regulations for the introduction
of immigrants from Europe into the Colony of New
Zealand on the nomination of persons resident
therein: And whereas by the said first-mentioned
Act it is, amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor in Council may from time to time make
Regulations for the conduct of immigration to New
Zealand, and for the nomination of immigrants by
persons residing therein, as in the said Act mentioned,
and no action shall be taken upon any such Regu-
lation until the same has been laid before Parliament:
And whereas by "The Immigration and Public Works
Act Amendment Act, 1871," so much of the 40th
section of the said first-mentioned Act as provides
that no action is to be taken under the Regulations
made under the said section until such Regulations
have been laid before Parliament, is thereby repealed:
And whereas it is expedient that other Regulations
should be made in addition to those so made by the
Governor as aforesaid:
Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise
of the power and authority vested in him for that
purpose by "The Immigration and Public Works
Act, 1870," and by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said Colony, doth
hereby make the Regulations set forth in the Schedule
hereto, for the conduct of immigration to New
Zealand, and for the nomination of immigrants by
persons resident therein: Such Regulations shall be
in addition to those already in force, and shall take
effect from and after the thirty-first day of August
instant: Provided, however, that nothing herein
contained, or in the Regulations hereby made, shall
prejudice or affect anything lawfully done or any
right acquired or duty imposed by or under the said
Regulations of the fifteenth day of October aforesaid.

SCHEDULE.
ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS FOR THE CONDUCT OF
IMMIGRATION TO NEW ZEALAND, ON THE NOMI-
NATION OF IMMIGRANTS BY PERSONS RESIDENT
THEREIN.
- Except as hereinafter provided, nominations of
the following classes only will be accepted, viz.,-
Agricultural labourers, such as farm ser-
vants, navvies, shepherds, carpenters, country
mechanics, &c., and
Single women suitable for domestic service, such
as cooks, housemaids, general servants, dairy
maids, &c. - Married men must be under 45 years of age,
single men under 40 years of age, and single women
between 15 and 35 years of age. - Free passages will not be granted to more than
3 children under 12 years of age in one family; but
the number in excess may be paid for at the current
rate of passage. - Immigration Officers may provisionally accept
nominations of persons not eligible under the fore-
going Regulations if satisfied as to the prospect of
employment upon arrival, &c.; but such nominations
will be subject to the approval of the Minister for
Immigration. - The Minister for Immigration may authorize
payment in cash of such an amount as he may think
fit to be taken for the passage of persons, who under
the foregoing Regulations or in his opinion are in-
eligible for free passages; and nominators may also
deposit with Immigration Officers any sums they may
desire the Agent-General to advance to their friends
for outfit or other embarkation expenses. - Persons wishing to obtain labour of a particular
class may send instructions to their friends or agents
at home through an Immigration Officer, and such

Dunedin, was inadvertently omitted from the Commission of the Peace.
