5. Until further order shall be made in that behalf,
the above regulations shall be in force only within
the District of Auckland.

Amendment of Table of Distances for Service of
Summons under the Rules and Orders relating to
"The District Courts Act, 1858," and the Acts
amending the same.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Dunedin, this tenth
day of May, 1875.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the tenth section of "The District
Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865," it is
enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in
the concurrence of one of the Judges
of the Supreme Court, to frame general rules and
orders for regulating the practice of the said Courts
and the form of proceedings therein, and from time
to time to rescind, suspend, alter, or amend all rules,
orders, and forms now framed or hereafter to be
framed, or any of them, or any part thereof; and
such original or amended rules, orders, and forms, or
any rules rescinding the same or any of them shall
be in force in any District Court respectively from a
day to be fixed by the said Governor in Council:
Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise
of the power and authority for this purpose vested
in him, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council, and with the concurrence of
James Prendergast, Esquire, Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court of the said Colony, doth hereby order
and direct that from and after the first day of
July, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five,
the table of distances for service of summons, being
No. seven in the Schedule to the Rules and Orders
dated one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine, for
regulating the practice of the District Courts, and
which table is referred to in rule forty-two of that
year, be rescinded, and that from and after such date
the following table of distances be in force and in
substitution thereof.

Registrars of Marriages &c. appointed.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
appoint the under-mentioned gentlemen to be
Registrars of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and
Marriages, and also Vaccination Inspectors, for the
Districts set opposite their names, as the same are
defined in Proclamation of the 8th day of May, 1873,
and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 28,
of the 9th day of May, 1873.

Certificate of Execution.

Wellington, 17th May, 1875.
THE following Certificate and Declaration are
published in conformity with the provisions of
"The Execution of Criminals Act, 1858."
CHARLES C. BOWEN.
I, John Thomas Rouse, the Medical Officer in at-
tendance at the execution of John Mercer at the
Gaol of Lyttelton, do hereby certify and declare that
I have this day witnessed the execution of the said
John Mercer at the said Gaol; and I do further
certify and declare, that the said John Mercer was,
in pursuance of the sentence of the Supreme Court,
hanged by the neck until his body was dead.
Given under my hand this seventh day of
May, in the year one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-five, at the Gaol of
Lyttelton.

WE do hereby testify and declare, that we have this
day been present when the extreme penalty of the
law was carried into execution on the body of John
Mercer, convicted at the Criminal Session of the
Supreme Court held at Christchurch on the tenth
day of April, and sentenced to death; and that the
said John Mercer was, in pursuance of the said
sentence, hanged by the neck until his body was
dead.
Dated this seventh day of May, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-five, at the
Gaol of Lyttelton.
