N.B.—Although the Auckland and Hokitika Hospitals are situated outside the boundaries of the respective boroughs, yet
the deaths in them have, for the sake of uniformity, been included in this Report.

The population has been estimated by adding the excess of births over deaths since the 1st March, 1874, to the then census
population. It is impossible to estimate the increase from immigration.

The births were 27 more than in March.
The deaths were 81 fewer in number than the deaths in March.
Of the deaths, males contributed 95; females, 75: 98 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 57.64
per cent. of the whole number; 53 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
The deaths of children under 1 year of age were 25 fewer than in March; the deaths of all under 5 were 56 fewer
than in March.
There were 5 deaths of persons of 65 and upwards, -2 males of 75 in Auckland; 1 male of 69 and 1 female of 80 in Nelson;
and 1 female of 69 in Wellington.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the proportions per cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the month of
April, 1875.
