Declaring Districts under “Native Land Act, 1873."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this
eighteenth day of February, 1874.
Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by “ The Native Land Act, 1873,”
it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor in Council from time to time to divide the
Colony into districts for the purposes set forth in
the said Act, and the limits of such districts from
time to time to alter as occasion may require :

Now therefore I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the said Colony, and in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority vested in me by the said in
part recited Act, do hereby order and declare that
the Colony shall be divided into districts for the
purposes of the said Act, as such are respectively
defined in the Schedule hereunder written.

SCHEDULE.

NORTHERN.

THIS district comprises all that portion of the North
Island which lies to the northward of a right line
drawn from Rocky Bay to the mouth of the Koatu
River, together with the adjacent islands.

KAIPARA.

This district is bounded towards the North by the
Northern District; towards the East by the sea to
the Tamaki Portage; thence by the said portage to
Manukau Harbour; thence towards the South by
that harbour; and towards the South-west by the
sea; together with Mokohinou, Hen and Chickens,
Little Barrier, Kawau, Kaitu, Motuhora, Orwaike,
Tiritiri Matangi, and other adjacent islands.

WAIKATO.

This district is bounded towards the North and
East by Manukau Harbour, Tamaki Portage, Tamaki
Strait, and the Frith of Thames from Manukau Heads
to Pukorokoro; thence by the eastern boundary of
the Waikato confiscated lands by Hapuakohe and
Pukemoremore to Opuahau; thence towards the
South-east, South, and West by the boundaries of the
said confiscated lands to Whaingaroa Harbour;
thence towards the South and South-west by that
harbour and the sea to Manukau Harbour; together
with Waiheke, Ponui, Taylor's, Motuihi, Motutapu,
Rangitoto, and other adjacent islands.

THAMES.

This district is bounded towards the North and
West by the Frith of the Thames and the Hauraki
Gulf from Pukorokoro to Cape Colville; thence
towards the North-east and East by the sea to Nga-
kuri-a-whare; thence towards the South-east by a
right line to the summit of Te Aroha Mountain;
thence again towards the East by the summit of the
watershed of Tauranga Harbour to a point near
Wairere; thence again towards the South-east by a
right line through Wairere to Opuahau; and thence
again towards the West by the Waikato District to
Pukorokoro, the commencing point; together with
the Great Barrier and its adjacent islands, Mercury,
Alderman, and other adjacent islands, but excepting
Mayor Island.

BAY OF PLENTY.

This district is bounded towards the North-east by
the summit of the watershed of Tauranga Harbour
from Wairere to Otane Wainuku; thence towards
the North-west by a right line to Otara, and thence
by a right line to Wairakei; thence towards the North-
east by the Bay of Plenty to Matata; thence towards
the East by the Te Awa-o-te-Atua, Rangitaiki, and
Whirinaki Rivers to the most southerly source of
the latter, thence by a right line to the summit of
Tiwatawata Mountain, and thence by a right line to
the point where the Waipunga River intersects the
southern boundary of the Province of Auckland;
thence on the South by that boundary to the
Wanganui River; thence again towards the North-
west by a right line to the summit of Titiraupenga
Mountain, thence by a right line to Te Niho-o-te-
Kiore on the Waikato River; thence towards the
South-west by the Waikato River to the south-east
boundary of the Waikato District; and thence again
towards the North-west by the Waikato and Thames
Districts to the commencing point near Wairere;
inclusive of Plate Island.
