There is not much noticeable difference between the absolute numbers of the deaths in each class in September and October.
There is a small proportionate reduction in the deaths from Zymotic Diseases, and a small proportionate increase in the deaths from
Local Diseases. In the Zymotic Diseases there has been a marked increase in the deaths from Measles, these having increased
from 2 to 9; they all occurred in Dunedin. The deaths from Influenza have decreased from 12 to 1. The deaths from Heart
Disease were slightly more numerous, being 10 in October, 6 in September, and 2 in August. Bronchitis was only fatal to the
very young or the aged; of the 11 deaths, 6 were of infants not exceeding 12 months, 1 of a child of 3 years, and 4 of persons
from 63 to 73 years of age. The deaths from this cause were fewer by 4 than in September, but the total deaths from Diseases
of the Respiratory System were only 1 less in number than in September. While the rainfall for the 3 previous months has been
exceptionally heavy, that for October has been below the average of former years.
