Canterbury, shall be exercised by the Superintendent
of such province.

Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same; and issued at Wellington, this
fourteenth day of November, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-four.

WHEREAS by the sixth section of "The Out-
lying Districts Sale of Spirits Act, 1874," it
is enacted that, with respect to licenses issued under
"The Licensing Act, 1873," or any Act amending
the same, and granted by some person or authority
other than a Licensing Court, but which licenses are
intended to take effect within any outlying district,
the Governor may, by Warrant under his hand,
nominate one or more Assessors for the purpose of
assenting to the issue of such licenses within such
districts, and no such licenses shall be issued unless
the consent of such Assessor or Assessors to the
issue thereof has been obtained and signified in the
manner provided by the said "Outlying Districts Sale
of Spirits Act, 1874:"

Notice of intention to purchase Native Lands in the
Province of Auckland.

WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act Amendment Act, 1871," the
Governor is, among other things, empowered to
enter into arrangements for the acquisition of par-
ticular portions of land in the North Island, for the
purpose of mining for gold, for the establishment of
special settlements, or for the purposes of railway
construction: And by the said Act it is also pro-
vided that it shall be lawful for the Governor,
whenever he shall have determined to enter into
negotiations for the purchase of such land, to insert
a notice in the New Zealand Gazette that it is his
intention to enter into such negotiations, and after
such notice is inserted it shall not be lawful for any
one to purchase or acquire from the Native owners
any right, title, or interest, or contract for the pur-
chase or acquisition from the Native owners of any
right, title, or interest, in the lands specified in
such notice, unless the notice be cancelled by the
Governor: Provided that no such notice shall have
longer operation than for the period of two years:

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby nominate
HEMI TAUTARI, Bay of Islands District;
POIHIPI TUKAIRANGI, Taupo District;
HENARE POTAE, and RAPATA WAHAWAHA,
Waiapu District;
PAORA TE APATU, Wairoa District;
HAKOPA TE KOTUKU, Raglan District;
HORI NGATAI, Tauranga District;
WIKIRIWHI TE TUAHU, Makatu District,
(Assessors appointed under "The Outlying Districts
Sale of Spirits Act, 1870,") for the purpose of as-
senting to the issue of licenses granted within the
respective districts set opposite their names, as such
districts have been proclaimed under the last-men-
tioned Act.

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pur-
suance of the provisions of the hereinbefore in part
recited Act, and in exercise of the powers thereby
vested in me, do hereby give notice that it is my
intention forthwith to enter into negotiations for
the purchase from the Native owners of the block
or parcel of land situate in the Province of Auckland,
and described in the Schedule hereto.

Te Raepohatu to the mouth of the Whirinaki; thence
on the South by the Whirinaki to Te Hinau; thence
on the East by a line running to the upper portion
of Mangahouhi; thence on the North by a line to
the first point.

Assessors under "The Outlying Districts Sale of
Spirits Act, 1874," to sit and act with Licensing
Courts.

Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby declare that the Assessor or
Assessors appointed for any outlying district under
"The Outlying Districts Sale of Spirits Act, 1870,"
