Wellington, 5th October, 1874.
THE following Notices to Mariners received from
the Portmaster, Brisbane, are published for
general information.

EDWARD RICHARDSON,
(in absence of Commissioner of Customs).

CUMBERLAND ISLANDS.
THE Master of the ship "Lady Douglas" reports the
existence of a coral reef, drying at low water, and
extending from the westward of the southernmost
"Sand P. D." to K 4½ Isle, and "Sand and Rocks"
to the eastward, and thus connecting the islet and
sandbanks.

REEF, WALKER BAY—BETWEEN WALKER AND
MONKHOUSE POINTS.
MASTERS of Vessels are cautioned. that in Walker
Bay, rocks dry at low water extend out to the edge
of the shoal water shown upon the chart, their outer
extremity bearing S.E. by S. S. from Monkhouse
Point, and their south-western limit W. N. from
the rocky point forming the south-east headland of
the bay.
Small craft intending to get shelter under this
point should round it at a distance of and at not less
than one cable, and then haul up and anchor in 10
feet low water springs, about three cables from the
point.

SUNKEN REEF, HALIFAX BAY.
MR. J. H. MAYER, Master of the schooner "Mar-
chioness of Lorne," reports the existence of a sunken
reef lying about 1½ or 2 miles W.S.W. from the
north-west point of Rattlesnake Island. The reef
lies east and west, is of small extent, and is covered
by about 2 feet of water at low water springs.

which he got a cast of 18 feet at low water—in lati-
tude 13° 46′ 30″ S., longitude 167° 19′ 30″ E., 1½
mile from the western side of Vanua Lava, and
bearing from the North Cascade S.E. by S. S. The
reef is about ⅓ of a cable in extent, and has 12
fathoms water all round it.
