General Rules of Native Land Court approved.

IS Excellency the Governor in Council has been
pleased to approve of the following General
Rules of the Native Land Court, made by the Judges
and Assessors of the Court under the 17th section of
"The Native Land Act, 1873."

JAMES FERGUSSON, Governor.
WHEREAS it is enacted by "The Native Land Act,
1873," that the Judges of the Native Land Court,
with the Assessors, shall, as soon as conveniently
may be after the passing thereof, make such General
Rules touching the sittings of the Court and the
practice and procedure thereof in all matters as
they may deem advisable: Provided always that all
Rules to be so made shall be submitted to the Gover-
nor in Council for his approval:
Now therefore, we, the Judges of the said Court,
with the Assessors thereof, do hereby, in pursuance
of the said power, make the rules following, that is
to say,-
I. Sittings of the Court shall be held at such times
and places as shall be fixed by the Chief Judge, of
which notice shall be duly given; and no matter shall
be judicially heard except at a Court so fixed, and
unless notice thereof shall have been given.
II. The Chief Judge shall give due notice to any
Judge that he is required to preside at such Court,
and he shall preside accordingly.
III. If any unforeseen event renders necessary
the postponement of any Court, the Chief Judge or
the Judge to preside may postpone the same by
notice in writing, circulated in the most extensive
manner possible.
IV. The Judge's Clerk, under section 11 of the
Act, may, on the written request of the Judge,
adjourn any Court.
V. Any case may be from time to time adjourned
sine die.
VI. The decision of the Court ordering a memorial
of ownership shall be in the following form, or as
near thereto as circumstances will admit:-
