of future peace; and I therefore received the Taimua
(literally "leaders") on board the "Pearl," and
saluted their flag, in recognition of an authority
which has been properly constituted, and has a clear
right to exercise jurisdiction in Samoa.
The flag is a red one, with a blue jack in the left
upper canton, bearing a white star.

Petition for Municipality at Nelson.

IN conformity with the provisions of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1867," the following
Petition from Inhabitant Householders of the City
of Nelson for that City to be constituted a Borough,
and Letter of Assent from His Honor the Superin-
tendent of Nelson, are published for general infor-
mation; and it is hereby notified that His Excellency
the Governor will consider the Petition on the 16th
day of March next.

The Petition of the undersigned Inhabitants,
Householders of the City of Nelson, the
boundaries whereof are hereinafter more
particularly set forth.

HUMBLY SHOWETH,-

The City of Nelson, the boundaries of which are
hereinafter more particularly set forth, comprises the
site of the Town and the Wakatu District, and is
bounded as follows:-By a line drawn from the Light-
house on the Boulder Bank to the south-west angle
of section numbered 1 on the plan of Suburban
North; thence by the southern boundary of the said
section; thence by the boundaries of Block A in the
Wakatu District to the bank of the River Maitai;
thence by the western boundary of section numbered
