FLORIDA.
WHILE proceeding towards Mboli Harbour, Florida
Island, Solomon Group, from the southward, H.M.
ship "Dido" passed over a patch of coral about two
cables in extent, and two miles off shore, the least
water found being 3 fathoms.
From the N.E. edge of the shoal the following
bearings were taken:—
East Islet, S. 65° E. ) In this position the Admiralty
Tree ” S. 22° W. ) chart, No. 209, Solomon
Sail Rock, N. 71° W. ) Islands, gives 10 fathoms.
CHOISEUL.
While coasting the south shore of Choiseul Island,
Solomon Group, a dangerous coral reef was seen run-
ning off from the shore, 3 miles west of Cape Allen.
This reef runs first in a westerly direction for about
4 miles, gradually drawing off the land to a distance
of about 5 miles. A little further to the N.W., and
about 6 miles off shore, heavy breakers were seen
running for some distance parallel to the coast.
The whole of this coast is apparently foul, and
should not be approached within 5 or 6 miles.

of the West Channel, and a notice to mariners con-
sequent thereon, are published for general informa-
