WELLINGTON, THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1874.

Sheriff's District of the County of Westland altered to
"The District of Westland South."

JAMES FERGUSSON, Governor.

WHEREAS by "The Sheriffs Act, 1858," it is
enacted that after the passing of the said Act
it shall be lawful for the Governor, and for no other
person, to appoint fit persons to be Sheriffs within
the Colony, who shall hold their office during pleasure;
and that it shall be lawful for the Governor, and for
no other person, to define the districts within which
the jurisdiction of the several Sheriffs shall be exer-
cised, and the limits of such distritts from time to
time to alter as occasion may require: And whereas
by Warrant, bearing date the ninth day of March,
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, the
boundaries of the Sheriff's District of the County of
Westland were defined: And whereas it is expedient
that the name of the said district should be altered:
Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of every power and authority in me
vested in this behalf, do hereby declare that the said
Sheriff's District of the County of Westland, as the
same is defined as aforesaid, shall be and remain a
district within which a Sheriff shall exercise jurisdic-
tion, and shall be called by the name of "The District
of Westland South."

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this eleventh day of March,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
four.
