order that the same may be laid before the General
Assembly, in accordance with the provisions of the
one hundred and tenth clause of "The Gold Fields
Act, 1866."

Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty's Most
Honorable Privy Council, Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same; and issued under the Public Seal
of the said Colony, at Christchurch, this
eleventh day of December, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-three.

Delegation of Governor's Powers under "The Lunatics
Act, 1868," to the Superintendent of the Province of
Taranaki.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At Christchurch, this eleventh day of December, 1873.
Present:
THE HONORABLE THE PREMIER, PRESIDING.
WHEREAS by "The Lunatics Act, 1868," it
is enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor in Council, from time to time to order and
direct that all or any of the powers, functions, duties,
and authorities vested in or required to be performed
by the Governor or the Governor in Council, or the
Colonial Secretary, by the said Act, within any
Province or other district of the Colony, shall be
exercised or performed by the Superintendent of any
such Province, or by any other person the Governor
may think fit; and thereupon such functions, powers,
duties, and authorities may by such Superintendent
or other person be exercised or performed within the
Province or other district of the Colony specified:
Now therefore, His Excellency Sir James Fer-
gusson, the Governor of New Zealand, with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said Colony, in pursuance and in exercise of the
power and authority for that purpose vested in him,
doth hereby order and direct that all the powers,
functions, duties, and authorities vested in or
required to be performed by the Governor, or the
Governor in Council, or the Colonial Secretary, by
"The Lunatics Act, 1868," within the Province of
Taranaki, shall be exercised by the Superintendent
of such Province.

Districts Act, 1873," approved by the Governor in
Council.

THE HONORABLE THE PREMIER, PRESIDING.
WHEREAS by "The Gold Mining Districts Act,
1873," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor, subject to the provisions of the said
Act, from time to time, to make, alter, amend, and
revoke rules and regulations for the purposes therein
mentioned: And whereas, under and in pursuance
of the said Act, the Governor hath, by Warrant
under his hand bearing even date herewith, made
the rules and regulations set forth in the Schedule
thereto: And whereas by the said Act it is further
enacted that no rule and regulation shall become or
have the effect of law until the same shall have been
approved by the Governor in Council, and every such
rule and regulation shall be published in the New
Zealand Gazette, and in the Government Gazette of
the Province in which such rule and regulation shall
be intended to have force and effect:
Now therefore, His Excellency Sir James Fergus-
son, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of the said
Act, in exercise of every power and authority enabling
him in that behalf, and by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said Colony,
doth hereby approve of the said rules and regulations
so made as aforesaid.

Area of Claims prescribed within the Hauraki Gold
Field.

WHEREAS by "The Gold Mining Districts Act,
1873," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor, subject to the provisions of the said
Act, from time to time to make, amend, alter, and
revoke regulations for, among other things, prescrib-
ing the area of claims, and for regulating the use and
occupation of land held under the said Act, and
mining operations therein and thereon: And whereas
it is expedient that certain rules and regulations
should be made for the purposes and in manner
hereinafter set forth :
Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority
vested in me by the said in part recited Act, do
hereby make the regulations set forth in the Sche-
dule hereto: And I do hereby declare that the said
rules and regulations shall be in force within that
part of the Province of Auckland comprised within
the "Hauraki Gold Field," as such gold field is now
constituted under the said in part recited Act, and
shall take effect therein on and after the thirty-first
day of December instant.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the

SCHEDULE.
- Every claim, of whatsoever class the same may
be, shall be bonΓ’ fide and continuously worked, and
there shall be employed therein or thereon, for gold
mining purposes, at least one man for every fifteen
thousand square feet of land comprised in the claim.
