PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the
General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in
the eighteenth year of the reign of Her Majesty
Queen Victoria, and intituled "The Marriage Act,
1854," the following names of Officiating Ministers
within the meaning of the said Act are published for
general information :—

I, JOHN B. BENNETT, Registrar-General of Births,
Deaths, and Marriages in New Zealand, do hereby
certify that the foregoing Names of Officiating
Ministers, within the meaning of "The Marriage
Act, 1854," have been sent in to me, in addition to
the names in Lists published in the New Zealand
Gazette, No. 6, of the 30th January; No. 9, of the
13th February; No. 11, of the 27th February; No.
17, of the 20th of March; No. 22, of the 10th of
April; No. 25, of the 24th of April; No. 26, of the
the 1st of May, and No. 30, of the 15th May in the
present year.

BOWEN PRIZE ESSAY..

A PRIZE of the value of FIVE POUNDS (£5)
—a Medal or Books—is hereby offered by the
University for competition under a deed of gift from
His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, for the
best English Essay on the subject herein specified.
Competition open to all Matriculated Students of
the University not being graduates.

SUBJECT:

"The Wars of the Roses, comparing the Titles
of the respective Claimants to the Crown, and
pointing out the effect of those Wars upon the
subsequent course of English History."

Essays to be sent in to the Registrar of the Uni-
versity, Christchurch, with a motto prefixed, accom-
panied by a paper or envelope sealed up with the
same motto outside, and the name and address of
the candidate written within.

Essays to be sent in by the end of Michaelmas
Term in the present year (last week in November).
