(L.S.) A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1870," it is, amongst other things,
enacted that the Governor from time to time, by
Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette,
may, as to parts within the North Island of New
Zealand, define the roads and the boundaries thereof,
and the bridges and ferries, which shall be and be
deemed to be roads, bridges, or ferries, as the case
may be, under the provisions of the said Act; and
by the said Act it is also enacted that the Governor
shall have power to form, control, improve, manage,
repair and maintain any proclaimed road, bridge or
ferry: And whereas it is expedient that a ferry
should be established on the Whenuakura River, on
the main road between Wanganui and Patea, as here-
inafter mentioned:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the ferry described in the Schedule
hereto shall be and be deemed to be a ferry under
the provisions of the said Act.
SCHEDULE.
FERRY at Oika, in the Province of Wellington, near
the northern boundary of the Railway Reserve, where
it crosses the Whenuakura River on the main line of
road from Wanganui to New Plymouth.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington,
this nineteenth day of December, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-two.

WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1870," it is, amongst other things,
enacted that the Governor may from time to time,
by Proclamation published in the New Zealand
Gazette, direct tolls to be paid for all animals and
vehicles passing or repassing at any ferry as in the
said Act mentioned, and fix and appoint the rates
thereof and the exemptions therefrom, and from
time to time, in like manner, may reduce, raise, alter,
and abolish any such tolls: And whereas a ferry
hath been proclaimed under the provisions of the
said Act at Oika, in the Province of Wellington,
near the northern boundary of the Railway Reserve,
where it crosses the Whenuakura River, on the main
line of road from Wanganui to New Plymouth, and
it is expedient that the rates of tolls to be paid at the
said ferry should be fixed:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in me by the said Act, do hereby fix and
appoint that the tolls to be paid for passing or re-
passing through or at the ferry at the Whenuakura
River aforesaid, shall be at the rates set forth in the
Schedule hereto, and do fix and appoint the exemp-
tions from such tolls as in the said Schedule men-
tioned, and do declare that the same shall be applicable
only to the said ferry at the Whenuakura River
aforesaid.

SCALE OF TOLLS AT FERRY AT OIKA, IN THE PROVINCE
OF WELLINGTON, near the Northern Boundary
of the Railway Reserve, where it crosses the
Whenuakura River, on the main line of road
from Wanganui to New Plymouth.
