IT is hereby notified, that the Native title has been
extinguished over the block of land whereof the
boundaries are mentioned or described in the Schedule
hereunto annexed, with the exception of the Reserves
specified therein.

SCHEDULE.

PROVINCE OF WELLINGTON. - PARAE KARETU BLOCK.
Estimated to contain about 46,975 Acres.
BOUNDED on the North by a line from Haumakariri,
on the Turakina River, to Tiriraukawa Hill, and
thence to the valley of the Pourewa; on the East by
lines in the valley of the Pourewa and the Pourewa
Stream to the boundary of the Taraketi Block; on
the South, the boundary of the Taraketi Block and a
portion of the Parae Karetu Block, reserved from
this sale and known as Tapui Paretao, and the
boundary of the Turakina-Rangitikei purchased block,
to Te Poroporo, near the Turakina River; and on the
West by lines to the Turakina River, and by the
Turakina River to Haumakariri, with the exception
of a small portion at Ngapuna not included in the
original map of the Parae Karetu claim, and of 150
acres between the lakes Namunamu and Ngaruru.

THE following Local Signals for Manukau Harbour,
prepared by Captain Wing, Harbour Master at
that port, have been approved of in terms of Sec-
tions 105 and 107 of the New Zealand Harbour and
Quarantine Regulations.

MANUKAU HARBOUR SIGNALS.

  1. One ball at mast-head-Wait for flood tide.
  2. One ball at mast-head, and North semaphore arm
    pointed up-Wait for half flood.
  3. One ball at mast-head, with both semaphore
    arms pointed up-Wait for high water.
  4. One ball at each yard-arm-Steam vessel, take
    South Channel.
  5. Two balls vertical at South yard-arm, and one at
    North yard-arm-Sailing vessel, take South
    Channel.
  6. When the ball at North yard-arm is lowered
    half-way down in connection with signal for
    steam or sailing vessel, it will mean-Take Fanny
    Channel.
  7. One ball at mast-head, and one at each yard-
    arm-Bar dangerous.
  8. Both semaphore arms pointed down-No wind
    about the Heads.
  9. North semaphore arm pointed horizontally, and
    South arm downwards-Come to an anchor.
  10. Both semaphore arms pointed upwardsβ€”
    Remain at anchor, or Wait for signal.
  11. South semaphore arm pointed upwards, and
    North arm downwards-Will send a Pilot.
  12. Both semaphore arms pointed horizontallyβ€”
    Get under weigh.
  13. North semaphore arm pointed up, and one ball
    at North yard-arm-A vessel in danger and
    wanting assistance.
  14. Both semaphore arms pointed up, and a ball at
    each yard-arm-A Steamer is coming to your
    assistance.
  15. When the signals are intended for vessels
    OUTWARD BOUND, an extra signal in the form
    of T, painted red, will be shown below the yard
    on the mast.
  16. The semaphore arms will be used for piloting
    vessels in and out of the Harbour when required.
    The vessel being piloted by the semaphore is to
    be steered in the direction in which the semaphore
    arm is pointed; and when the arm is dropped,
    the vessel is to be kept steady as she goes.

EAST COAST OF NORTH ISLAND.
NOTICE is hereby given, that reliable information
has been received by the Marine Department
that
CAPE TURNAGAIN
is situated about six (6) miles to the Southward of
the position assigned to it by the Admiralty Charts
and "New Zealand Pilot."
Masters of vessels are therefore cautioned to use
great vigilance when rounding this Cape, until its
correct position is ascertained, of which due notice
will be given.
N.B.-This notice affects the following Admiralty
Charts of New Zealand, viz.:-
General Chart and Sheet IV.; also
New Zealand Pilot, pp. 104, 106, and 286.

IN the matter of "The Friendly Societies Act,
1867," notice is hereby given that an amended
Rule of the Auckland Educational Society, and the
By-laws of the Grahamstown Branch, No. 35, of
the Hibernian Australian Benefit Society, duly
certified, have been lodged with the Registrar of
Friendly Societies, registered and recorded under the
provisions of "The Friendly Societies Act, 1867."

TENDERS are invited for the Erection of
Quarantine Barracks on Soames Island,
Wellington Harbour.
General conditions, specifications, and drawings
may be seen at the Offices of the Colonial Architect,
Wellington.
Tenders will be received by the undersigned up to
noon on Saturday, the 15th day of June.
The lowest or any tender nor necessarily accepted.

PATENT for an Invention for simultaneously
Punching Holes along two opposite sides or
edges of a Plate or Sheet of Iron, either in parallel,
straight, or curved lines, or radial lines, called "The
Self-acting Duplex Punching Machine."
This is to notify, that CHARLES MCQUEEN, of Dun-
edin, in the Province of Otago, New Zealand, Engi-
neer, did, on the sixth day of May instant, deposit at
the office of the Patent Officer, in the Colonial Secre-
tary's Office, in Wellington, a Specification or Instru-
ment in writing, under his hand and seal, particularly
describing and ascertaining the nature of the said
Invention, and in what manner the same is to be per-
formed; and that by reason of such deposit the said
Invention is protected and secured to him exclusively
for the term of six calendar months thence next
ensuing.
And I do further notify, that the said Charles
McQueen has given notice in writing at my office of
his intention to proceed with his application for
