and 158; thence in a south-west direction in an
irregular line 7604 links or thereabouts, running in
old line of road, bounded on the North-west by lot
No. 136, public road, and on both sides by lots No.
158, 157, public road, across tideway of Ohiwa Har-
bour and into lot 191.

The estimated length of the said road being 11
miles or thereabouts, and the breadth 1 chain, the
same being correctly delineated on the plans referred
to in the body of this Proclamation.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Welling-
ton, this fourteenth day of May, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-two.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1870,” it is, amongst other things,
enacted that the Governor, from time to time, by
Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette,
may, as to parts within the North Island of New
Zealand, define the roads and the boundaries thereof,
and the bridges and ferries, which shall be and be
deemed to be roads, bridges, or ferries, as the case
may be, under the provisions of the said Act, and any
such Proclamation may include existing roads, but no
such roads or parts of roads shall be included if they
are, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, roads
which should be constructed by the Superintendent
and the Provincial Council of the Province wherein
such roads are situated (as well as new road lines);
and the Governor from time to time may revoke or
alter any such Proclamation: And whereas in the
opinion of me, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Governor
of New Zealand, and the Executive Council of New
Zealand, the road defined in the Schedule hereunto
is not a road which should be constructed by the
Superintendent and the Provincial Council of the
Province of Auckland:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance
of the power and authority in me vested by the said
Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the road
within the North Island of New Zealand described,
and the boundaries whereof are set forth in the
Schedule hereto, and which road is delineated on plans
numbered one and two, deposited in the Office of the
Public Works Department at Wellington, in the Pro-
vince of Wellington, and thereon coloured red, and
which plans are authenticated for the purposes of this
Proclamation by the signature of the Honorable John
Davies Ormond, the Minister for Public Works,
shall be and be deemed to be a road under the pro-
visions of the said Act.

SCHEDULE

OF THAT PORTION OF THE RICHMOND, KAINGAROA,
AND TAUPO ROAD, FROM RICHMOND TO OTAKIRI,
TARAWERA RIVER, PARISH OF MATATA.

STARTING from the east side of Pollen Street, im-
mediately opposite Pakeha Street, Township of
Richmond, and running in a south by east direction
in an irregular line 4768 links or thereabouts,
bounded on the West by lot No. 14, owned by the
Tuhourangi Tribe; on the East by lot No. 3, owned
by the Ngatirangitiki, and by lot No. 10, owned by
the Ngatitu; thence in a south by west direction in
an irregular line 8198 links or thereabouts, bounded
on the West as before, on the East by lot No. 10,
owned by the Ngatitu, public road, and by lot No. 1,
owned by the Ngatiwhakaue; thence in a south-west
direction in an irregular line 6547 links or there-
abouts, bounded on the West by lots No. 14 and.
No. 23, on the East by lots No. 1 and No. 23, the
latter lot being the property of the Ngatituwharetoa;
thence in a south-east direction in a direct line 3738
links or thereabouts, bounded on both sides by lot
No. 23; thence in a south-west direction in an ir-
regular line 12,456 links or thereabouts, bounded on
both sides by lot No. 23, owned by the Ngatitu-
wharetoa, by lot No. 22, owned by the Ngatirau-
kawa, by lot No. 19, owned by the Patuwai; thence
in an east and southerly direction in an irregular
line 11,883 links or thereabouts, bounded on both
sides by lot No. 19; thence in a south-west direction
in an irregular line 26,667 links, bounded on both
sides by lot No. 19, owned by the Patuwai, by lot
No. 21, owned by Te Tawera, by lot No. 20, owned
by the Ngatitu, by lot No. 27, owned by the Ngati-
whakaue, by lot No. 29, owned by the Ngatimanawa;
thence in an easterly direction to the Tarawera
River in an irregular line 8659 links or thereabouts,
bounded on the North by lot No. 29, owned by the
Ngatimanawa; on the South by public road leading
to Tarawera, and lot No. 30, owned by the Ngati
rangitiki.

The estimated length of said road being 10 miles
or thereabouts, and the breadth thereof 1 chain,
with the exception of that portion passing through
road reserve on lot No. 22, the breadth of which is
shown on the plans referred to in the body of this
Proclamation.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Petty Sessions Act, 1865,”
it is enacted that, as soon as conveniently may
be after the establishment of a Petty Sessions District,
and afterwards from time to time as may be deemed
expedient, the Governor shall, by Proclamation in the
New Zealand Gazette, appoint a meeting of the Justices
resident in such district to be yearly held within such
district, at some specified time and place, for the pur-
pose of choosing a Chairman of Petty Sessions and
settling a rota of attendance: And whereas by an
Order in Council bearing date the 27th day of April
last past, the Petty Sessions Districts named in the
Schedule hereto were, from and after the first day of
July next, defined and established as in the said
Order in Council mentioned:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
