TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING:
WHEREAS by "The Regulation of Elections Act,
1870," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor, by Warrant under his hand, from time to
time to appoint Polling Places for each Electoral Dis-
trict within or within one mile of the limits thereof, and
to appoint any one of such Polling Places to be the
Principal Polling Place for the District, and all or any
of such Polling Places from time to time to abolish, and,
if he think fit, to appoint other Polling Places in lieu
of those abolished, and that every such Warrant shall
be published in the New Zealand Gazette: Provided
always that no Polling Place shall be appointed by
the Governor under the said Act unless he shall be
first satisfied that the place to be appointed is more
convenient than any other for at least twenty
electors to record their votes thereat:
And whereas by Warrant under the hand of the
Governor, bearing date the eleventh day of Septem-
ber, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one,
the School House at Little Race Course Hill was
appointed a Polling Place for the District of Rakaia,
for the election of Members of the Provincial Coun-
cil of the Province of Canterbury:
And whereas it is expedient to abolish the same:
Now know ye that I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do
hereby abolish the above-named Polling Place for
the District of Rakaia, for the election of Members
of the Provincial Council of the Province of Canter-
bury, and do appoint in lieu thereof

1870," I hereby notify that GEORGE MCLEAN, Esq.,
resigned his seat in the House of Representatives for
the Electoral District of Waikouaiti on the 19th day
of March, 1872, and that the said seat is vacant by
reason of such resignation.
