THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
shortened, and the Mails to and from the United
Kingdom vid Brindisi may now be forwarded most
expeditiously by way of France, it has been decided
to adopt this route, and to forward in future, vid
Calais and Mont Cenis, the Mails referred to.
In consequence of the acceleration that will thus
take place, the day for the despatch from London of
the Mails vid Southampton has been changed from
Saturday to Thursday, in order that the heavy Mails
may reach Alexandria sufficiently early in advance of
the Brindisi Mails to prevent any delay to the latter.
The postage on letters, book packets, and pattern
parcels between New Zealand and the United
Kingdom vid Brindisi will remain unaltered; but for
a newspaper not exceeding four ounces in weight
the charge will in future be reduced from fourpence
to threepence, making the rate the same as it was
formerly when the Mails were forwarded vid
Marseilles.
By order.
